Advice

Hello everyone,

I posted here several moons ago and I need some advice.

I have been into shotguns.

For my birthday I am requesting a revolver from my wife. I am new to handguns.

I would like to use it to have fun such as target shoot. However, I would also like it as a HD weapon. I now have no reason for a CCW but since handguns are not cheap I may down the road, so that is a consideration, as well.

Also, I don't have all that much money to spend on it. Perhaps up to $500.

Any advice?

Thank you very much,
Michael

Man...Lots of good choices out there.

I like older Smith model 19s. Failing that, the Ruger KGP141 is a GREAT gun.

500 bones is plenty for a quality revolver. With a little searching, you could find either of the above mentioned guns, in good shape, for $300 and use the other $200 for ammo.

Or better yet, reloading components.

How do you buy a used gun? From where?

Is it risky for a newbie to handguns to buy a used gun?

Thank you,
Michael

If you have been lurking around here for a while great, listen to ALA Dan, C.R. Sam, Mike Irwin and others
I like the S&W K frames specifically the Mod 13 w/3" heavy barel and a round butt.

If your are looking a revolvers check out this thread

print it out and take it along.

I also like the Taurus Tracker series, I have had some great fun with my new one in 45 colt.

there are some great threads recently about great revolvers

Where are you Michael?

Used guns at shows, shops, in the paper...heck, everywhere here.

I second Perfessr's advice regarding the curmudgeons.

Another excellent source for previously owned guns is

Mount Vernon Gun & Coin, in Mt. Vernon, IL. A thumbs-up,
first class professional shop owned and operated by Mr.
Karl Morgan. Their website is listed as: Mount Vernon Gun
& Coin. All prices shown on their website are subject to
counter offer's; and they do offer a free 3 day, money
back inspection period.

What are your suggestions for barrel length? I would like to target shoot but I may also down the road use it as a ccw.

Thank you,
Michael

IMHO, four inches is the best all around, multi-purpose barrel length. Right at the top end for a concealment gun, though.
