Advice on scope mount...

Hi,

I'd like some advice on one-piece versus two-piece scope mounts...what are the pros and cons? I'm planning to mount a scope on a fixed magazine bolt rifle so I assume a two-piece would allow easier loading of the magazine.
Thanks.

LaMigra - I have never had any trouble with loading interference on bolt actions as the one-piecers have all been offset to allow access to the chamber.

I defer to others on the strengths and weaknesses of the two- and one-piece styles.

I use a one piece IBA mount. It is sturdy and the rings are brazed on the mount. I have not lost the zero with it, for all of the times it has been dinged and roughly handled. The mount completely clears the action (it is on a 700PSS) and does not interfere with using the rifle. Some good one and two piece mounts are now installed with extra minutes, so you will be able to shoot longer distances and still have some clicks left on the scope.
For a two piece mount I would suggest Leupold Mk IV bases. FWIW, I would stray from the Leupold one piece base with the windage screws. These screws can come loose at the wrong time, and I have seen rifles with these mounts top out at 500 yards.
