advice on a custom .223 build?

Hi,

I can't seem to find any bolt action .223's out there that have really comfortable stocks. I have long arms and am looking for a thumbhole stock with at least a 14.5" LOP. Ideally laminated since wood looks nice. I was thinking about buying a bolt action .223 and building a custom thumbhole stock for the rifle. Any recommendations on where to start?

Check out "Boyds" stock. They have what you are looking for for just about any common action.

Another option would be to find the rifle you like, with the stock you like and add a large recoil pad.

Well you could buy a Boyd's thumbhole stock and add spacers to the butt,or add an adjustable recoil pad.
Or you could have a longer stock made,Richards Micro-fit stocks will make you one for a reasonable price, but you'll have to finish it.

I shoot LH and couldn't find what I wanted,so I just modified a LH unfinished Boyd's Ross Thumbhole stock for my Savage 12-223.

Check with Stocky's Stocks, they might have something you can use.

I am not trying to rain on your parade, there is no need to build, you can get almost exactly what you are looking for from a factory rifle.

Length of pull ofr a 700 VLSS is 13-3/4". Take off the 1/2" pad, add a 1" pad, and the LOP will be 14-1/4". If you want another 1/4", you can add a spacer under the recoil pad.

Or, as others have suggested, you can buy whatever rifle you want, and buy a thumbhole stock from Rigchards Microfit, just be aware that they have about a 3 month lead time.
