Advice on 6.5 Creedmoor

I'm trying to decide what to do for a 6.5 Creedmoor. I have a Cabelad special 10FCP-SR that I am thinking about converting to 6.5 CM. With the cost of a new barrel, stock and tools to do conversion I could spend couple hundred more and get a complete rifle such as a Ruger Precision Rifle or a Savage 12LRP. It would take about 3-4 months for the barrel for conversion and by then the Ruger should be more available. Thought and opinions appreciated. Rifle would be for target shooting only so I'm not worried about weight. Thanks.

Or maybe a Ruger American Predator to start with.

Unless they've changed the reamer, the Savages have chambers that are a little small in some dimensions. As a result some people have had overpressure problems with the Hornady factory ammo which is really the big selling point for 6.5 Creedmoor IMO. So personally I would not have the Savage on my list.

I have no experience on the Rugers, although the precision rifle is obviously intriguing.

The small chamber issue is old news... No problems at all with my 12LRP shooting both 120gr and 140gr factory Hornady AMAX ammo... It prints 1/2" 5-shot groups with the 120's and .65-.75" groups with the 140's...And by some small chance you get one that has an issue, Savage will make it right at no cost.

That being said, the Ruger will offer more options for attaching things to the rifle and configuring the LOP, comb height, etc. than the 12LRP. All depends on what you want I guess. I'm not letting go of my Savage, but have thought about picking up a RPR to go with it....

I was in your predicament a few months back I had settled on the Savage 12LRP, but couldn't find one in 6.5CM in stock any where so I ended up buying a Dicks Sporting Goods exclusive Savage heavy barrel 308 for around $500ish then I bought a 6.5CM barrel and converted it. I also dropped it in a Bell & Carlson Medalist stock and had it inletted for AI Detachable Box Magazine Bottom Metal. I haven't had a chance to really see how its going to do with this new stock, but with the cheap flimsy Savage stock it was shooting around 3/4 MOA.

The Ruger Precision Rifle is a lot of gun for the money.

+1

I have read a lot of good things about the new Ruger they came out with. I may be in the market for one in 6.5 if I can spot one for around 1k
