The gun has never been used. What is a fair negotiating price? The initial starting price was $2000 any help would be greatly appreciated.

That's a Remington 700 LTR. Excellent rifle, and an absolute tack driver. I slay softballs and spray paint cans with mine at 500 yards consistently, hit after hit. It loves 168 AMAX and 168 SMK. The rifle brand new goes for 1k-1.2k when I bought mine a few years ago. You are paying basically retail at 2k for a used rifle. I've seen them on gunbroker for 900, the Leopold is around 1.2-1.5k Maybe a little more. I would ask him to take off the scope and offer 850-900 for the rifle. whether you buy it or not I seriously recommend this model. It's a lot more rifle than anything out there for the price if you are wanting to use it for long range shooting. I use my for both hunting and range. To be clear this rifle is optimum for 800 yards. If you are serious about the 1k yard lime I recommend getting a different rifle with a 1:11 or 1:10 twist rate because those twist will stabilize the 175-178gr bullets better. You will love this rifle. Oh, and that's not a synthetic stick. It's an HS Precision fiber stock, and has a comfortable recoil pad.

$600 Rem 700 SPS rifle
$400 HS stock
$1100 Leupold scope
$60 Harris bipod
$100 scope rings and mounts

It appears to be a solid setup. Add good quality ammo and it will serve you well.

Are you saying that is an SPS? If so, it is not an SPS, but a 700 LTR (light tactical rifle), brother to the 700 Police.

Why is this "buddy" selling it to you for retail? Some buddy glad I do not have one like that...... I suspect that there is an untold truth behind this. As for it being unshot phooy it isnt in the original box so it is used and needs to be treated as such but then for long distance I shoot a 721 that was made in the 1950s and it too looks unshot as my father only went hunting once with it as another hunters brush shot landed a bit to close for his comfort......

offer him 1700 and negotiate from there. he wo't get 2k for it selling it anywhere else. it looks like there are scuffs on the buttstock, could just be the picture but, I would wanna look at the top of the mag and see if there are any scratches. it'll be a sweet gun either way, but I doubt the un-used part. why would anyone build up such a pricey rifle and NEVER shoot it?

I have that rifle it's a Rem. 700 LTR, Bought it 2005 for $900. just the rifle. It's a great rifle, I'm benchrest shooter, this year I had the rifle blueprinted an a new barrel installed after 4500 rounds. I wouldn't part with mine, if you realy like the setup, go for it. Did he let you shoot it.

Check to see what the used rifles sell for on Gunbroker and offer $100 less. Same for the scope.
That would still be a good deal for your buddy.
