Advice for next carry

I am 100% happy with my Glock 19 but I'm looking to buy something "SLIGHTLY"
smaller. I'd like to stay with a 9mm.
Any suggestions?? As always, any repllies are welcome.

Not the Kel-tec P11

While I like the Kel-Tec, it's not a good replacement for the G-19

Yes it is measurably smaller, but just about as thick which negates any real improvement in carry comfort. That width does have a redeeming grace tho, makes managing the recoil of full house 9 mm easy in such a compact package.

I may go with an LCP, just for comfy pocket carry. I have shifted my carry position (IWB) to between 2-3 O'clock and it's a huge improvement, esp. sitting down in the car.

The price is right and with a fluff and buff the P11 is a solid little pistol. If you go Kel-Tec Google up Keltec fluff and buff and have at it. Mine was a jamomatic and the fluff and buff fixed it 100%. I'm told a couple hundred rounds down range will fix it too. I did not keep mine long enough for that.

The next logical step is the Glock 26 but since thickness of the gun and weight are the major parameters that lead to comfort, I just stay with my 19.

I'd say take a look at the Ruger LC9S. I know S&W is running the shield rebate promo right now, but the ruger runs right around $300ish anyways. Its a few ounces lighter and is more smooth around the edges, plus the trigger pull is a little lighter than the shield's. And of course you get the lifetime warranty from either or. Capacity is still good as well.

I 'm pretty sure that I'm looking for a smaller version of the Glock 19. Yes, the obvious answer is a smaller Glock since I'm very comfortable with my 19 and that will be what I try out first. But, I'd like to hear about anyone's model that might fit my wants. Shorter than 4.01", weight less than 30.18 ounces loaded. The Glock 26 seems like one choice. What else out there is similar but not much smaller in capacity or weight or barrel length.

Kahrs have good triggers for striker fired pistols. The pull is fairly long but smooth. You may want to look at the CW 9 which has a 3.5 inch barrel and weighs in at about 16 ounces. Capacity is 7+1. I have the CM9 which has a 3 inch barrel, weighs 14 ounces, and has a 6+1 capacity. The CM9 fits in larger pants pockets wearing a pocket holster.

Doc, the Glock 43 is a very nice shooting small single stack 9mm. It really shoots bigger than it is. IMHO it has it all for concealed carry. I don't own one, just spent some time with a friend's at the range.

The S&W Shield is a very functional carry pistol. The trigger feels crisp, but heavy. It has great sights. It is easy to shoot. Last, it can be had with a thumb safety. Now they are on sale for $250ish with rebate!

I'm a Glock guy and just bought a Shield 9mm as it's too good of deal to pass up with the current rebate. Got mine for $220 + $20 transfer fee. Shot it this past weekend and was really impressed with it. I would have told you to go with a 43 but after shooting the Shield and considering that it is currently half the price of the 43, I'd say go for the Shield.

Single stacks:
Kahr CW9 or CM9
Walther PPS

Double stacks:
FNS 9c
Walther P99c AS
Ruger American Compact
Taurus PT111 G2 if on a budget

I have a G19 and a G26, I personally don't see much difference when it comes to carry. I even use the same holster for either one. The primary function of my G26 is to shoot the sub-compact class at GSSF matches.

My son has a G43 which he loves, it's substantially smaller and lighter than the G26.

In the category of "Slightly" smaller than a G19, I'd go for the M&P 9c. It's a little smaller in all dimensions, but not so much that you are moving down to a single stack or a pocket pistol. It weighs in at 22oz, so even fully loaded with 13 rounds, it will meet your stated weight limit with room to spare. If you want to go down to a single stack, the rebate on the Shield makes it a no-brainer.

I found the Glock 26 with either the Pearce +0 or +2 baseplates (depending on concealment needs) essentially replaced my Glock 19.

I shoot it close to the same, easier to carry.

I carry my Glock 26 with factory +2 extensions almost exclusively these days.

I suppose if you're SERIOUS you should get another Glock so you have the same manual of arms etc.

But if you think variety is the spice of life then it could be fun to try the S&W offering, which is NICELY priced now or maybe try the Ruger LC9s.

If you go the Ruger route remember:

"Ruger LC9s Pro"has NO manual safety and does NOT have the MAGAZINE disconnect. (This would be my favorite.)

Regular "Ruger LC9s"has a manual safety and the gun will NOT fire if the magazine is out.

I am a revolver guy, but I carry my Glock 43 sometimes anyway. It is a lot easier to shoot than I would have expected.

I say try to rent the single stacks before you buy as my experience is they can have very different feels to them to different folks. I also like my G19, but I hated the G43, Shield was ok, but really liked the PPS M2. Capacity is the issue - either 6+1 or 7+1 (8+1 mag also available but I probably wouldn't carry it).
