Advice for my first shotgun.

I'm getting ready to move cross country and decided to pick up a pump action shotgun before i do so. I'm looking at the lower priced models right now, namely the Savage 320, 350, and the H&R Pardner Pump Protector. Any opinions on any of this, anyone like one better than the other? It'll be for range fun, and HD.

Honestly (and yes I realize HD is not the greatest thing to skimp on, but I honestly wanted a shotgun for my long long drive cross country) I don't have the funds right now for a mossberg 500 or rem 870 which is why I'm considering the models listed above. It will be backed up by my HK pistol but would prefer a rifle or shotgun as a primary.

better check the state CCW laws that you will be traversing. Also, most states have stringent laws about loaded long guns and prohibit them while traveling.

Lets get back to the heart of the matter. HD shotgun, one of the above 3 models or something else similarly priced for the time being

I just got the h and r for 200 bucks at sports authority. I love it and have heard nothing but good things about it (except for the finish, but mines perfect except for a small spot on the barrel). Go ahead and take it with you just be prepared for hastle if you get pulled over, though explaining your situation to a cop might be easier than dealing with some crank head who has been up for 2 weeks that wants the money in your wallet and your unarmed. Taking family? Take protection.

The problem with the clone guns is....

Those companies open and shut like clams with the tide. When Charles Daly shut down a few years back, a hundred thousand owners of Turkish made guns found themselves without warranty or parts support.

Used 870s, 500s, 37s and 1300s are neither hard to find nor more expensive than these clones.

I suggest going there.....

I just want to be clear to everyone, its not gonna be riding in the backseat loaded ready to go or anything like that, I'll be transporting all my long arms unloaded like they're supposed to be. I want one for when I get there, and I guess i like the idea of having one in the car even unloaded though yes I realize should a situation arise it's very unlikely it'll be much use to me.

Twas a poor choice of words on my part, I'm not gonna be riding around with a loaded shotgun as I drive cross country. But wanted to pick one up before i did move and was looking at the models above.

The Maverick 88 gets suggested a lot for this type of question. A lot of the parts from the Mossbergs interchange with it too.

I bought my first shotgun recently. I bought a SxS coach gun because I always wanted one :D Its cool and fun :D

And I figured that it would be a good travel gun since it breaks down so easy and smal. Its also a good 'hide in the closet' gun too since space is limited and pumping might not be easily done.

I may get a pump someday too.

I agree with the other posters that a Mossberg 500 or Remington is the best way to go. You can get Mossberg 500 around here new for just over $350. have seen them used for $250.

The H&R is made in China. I don't know much about this shotgun as the made in China was enough to stop me.

A used Winchester can be for $200-$300. A walmart Moseburg is pretty cheap and there's always a Maverick. They are less than $200.
