Advertising firearms

I posted a handgun on a web site that I use quite a bit. 2 days later it was deleted because they said it wasn't allowed. They admitted they didn't know the laws pretaining to this , so deleted it to be safe. BTW I sold the gun before they deleted it

Sunday paper here in the Twin Cities always has adds from Fleet Farm, Gander Mt., Sportmart, etc. They advertise guns in their adds all the time. I've never seen a firearm add on T.V.

The Houston Chronicle(the only newspaper in our 4th largest city) will not accept classified ads for firearms UNLESS you are licensed firearms dealer.

Whats up with that? They will however run articles in spanish to appease the illegals.

Two reasons why i rarely buy that paper anymore.

Not illegal, especially for personal firearms. There are local, state and federal laws and regulations regarding business and transfer aspects of the firearms industry. Also, advertising (making something known) is not the same as selling.

"or maybe they run ads in spanish to appease the very LEGAL spanish speaking population "

Not ads, but articles printed in spanish. Legal or not, if they want to read in spanish, they can buy a spanish language newspaper. This is America(atleast for now) so i prefer my newspaper to be in english, thank you very much.

And i dare say that MOST if not all LEGAL spanish speakers will also speak english, so the newspaper is clearly catering to illegals.

Care to back that up with stats?

No need to back that up. Why are government documents printed in spanish? Why must i press 1 for english every time i call a business?

You tell me then, whom are they catering to? They arent printing things in spanish for the benifit of Americans.

Go to mexico and try to find a government document printed in english.

This is America and they can print in whatever language they damn well please. And you can dare all you want but that doesn't mean you're right. It also doesn't mean that a native spanish speaker, even a natural born citizen, won't want to read an ad in their native tounge.

We need to upgrade to babysitters here at TFL!

Seriously! Does anyone know the percentage of threads that get hijacked here on TFL? Anyways, it is sort of strange that you dont see commercials for firearms on "regular" television. Even when you watch them on hunting shows they are really vague like cigarette ads used to be!

Geez the last time I looked old Sgt Kat, who is part mexican, is an American who served her country in Iraq.

Nice insult to our Spanish American citizens.

aThe reason they read it in the other languages is because it is their native tongue. They are more comfortable with it. I speak german but prefer to read in english since it is hard to ge back and forth. I speak english then all of a sudden ich hab mein Deutsch gesprochen und sie kann mich nicht understand so it's better for me to just stay in english. :D

I prefer the Bible in Latin.
The Torah in Hebrew.

and............................wait for it..............

The Koran only sounds right in Arabic.

BTW....what does "catering to illegals" mean? That the newspaper is bringing them sandwiches? Maybe the newspaper has a target audience - much like Playboy has pictures of beatiful women to appeal to men (in general). Is Playboy "catering" to men? And if so, what's wrong with that?
