Admit watching The West Wing?

Okay, forgive me, I watch the thing... the political junkie inside makes me do it. While it demonizes Republicans and guns and glorifies liberals and Democrats, it still is a "good" drama in the writing sense. It's a powerful show in terms of programming... I can almost feel myself almost hoping for a president like that even if he's anti. Course, then I look lovingly at my gun rack and return to my senses.

Anyways, as an Emmy-winning blowout you might be curious to note the tone the show's taking whether you watch it or not (cuz, others out there definitely are).

Synopsis: Skinheads target President's daughter's black boyfriend and attack the Pres in the process. His wounds are minor, another is injured, and one main character is seriously injured (but alive). The weapons were a 9mm Beretta and a Desert Eagle. Why? Not because that's the weapon of choice for a Oswald-like hit, but because they want to take on the gun issue and hitting up handguns is easier than going after rifles. As a Moment, the Press Secretary talks about the other people that were killed, injured, raped, or robbed at gunpoint that day and claims that if they had a gun they would have been just as helpless as the President was when surrounded by trained and armed gunmen. Sigh.

I thoroughly like this show for its intelligent writing, acting and dialogue, so it pains me to hear their position on handguns. On most other matters, "President Bartlett" would be a much better choice than our two "real" alternatives.

Watched it last year, as mentioned good writing, acting, etc..

However, it was easy to see where this was headed regarding guns and I chose not to watch and will watch it no longer.

I watched it for the first time last night, mainly because my better half wanted to. I was flipping back and forth between West Wing and the Country Music Awards...(Faith Hill and Shania Twain....ooh la la!!!!) Anyway, where was I?? I thought it was an ok show...up until the end when the bimbo was making the statements about guns....how many rapes, assaults etc were caused by guns. Gee, I wonder how many were PREVENTED by guns!! Or how the president could be protected by armed people....but infered that the average people are not or should not be afforded the same luxury...or right!! As somebody already said...I can see where this is going!!! Right down the toilet!!

I watch the show avidly, for reasons along the lines of Paladin's. Yes, the philosophy expressed on the show turns my stomach. However, I yearn for a world in which characters that principled existed in real public life, rather than a fictional drama.

Remember the point where Bartlett admits he screwed over dairy farmers because he felt he had a higher purpose? I loved that! But it will NEVER happen in reality, and that saddens me. I would rather face an honest, principled opponent on an issue than the skulking, raw manipulation we are actually struggling with.

So sue me for a fantasy...

I did watch the show last year and liked it. But when Sheen became Bradys mouthpiece doing HCI spots, I decided it's not worth watching. I get enough crap watching the news, and I don't need it there.

I've refused to watch anything with Martin Sheen in it since Apocalypse Now because of his political views and his inevitable success in inserting some preachy message about those views into anything he participates in.

I too watch the show, at least every once in awhile. I had to turn it off after that little speech last night, though.

I'd still take a president like Bartlett, because a man like Bartlett could be convinced by reasonable people. He might even change his mind on a basic issue.

But I resent the show for implying that a reasonable, honest politician must necessarily be a flaming liberal. As for that stupid speech last night, I say, AMEN! The president was indeed guarded by the best armed guards and he did still get shot. If that means that the rest of us should give up, go unarmed and not even think of trying to defend ourselves, I say fine. All I ask is that the Secret Service first be disbanded. If the White House really believes what the woman said about the best armed guards in the world doing no good, then they should be more than willing to do this.

I did see about 15min of "THE LEFT WING" just happend to turn flip to it on the asault weapons episode, when on of the eliete & smart was asking who needs a 50mm rifle I realized they were not only biased but uneducated (and uneducatalbe most likly)

The creator, writers, producers (most of the listed "producers" on the show are actually staff writers), Martin Sheen, etc., etc., ad nauseum, are Mega Millionaire Marxists or wannabee MMMs.

They have the goal of bringing about the destruction of our Constitution, and the instituting of their Great Brave New Marxist Socialist Police State Utopia.

The show is nothing more than brainwashing pap, for the "unwashed" with the object in mind of convincing the serfs that gun owners are "vermin" to be exterminated.

Aside from Martin Sheen's communistnazi ideology, he's as crazy as a crap house mouse, IMHO.

Let's not forget that Hitler, Lenin/Stalin, Mussolini, Mao, Castro, all had very slick writers... and look what they accomplished.

I'll find something else to do rather than watch "Extreme Left Wing." FWIW. J.B.
