adjusting/sighting in my new tech sights

So i FINALLY got the tech sights installed on my 10/22 (stupid front sight!) and took it to the range. man, thats a good time :)

i didnt get to shoot from a rest, it was all standing at 20 yards at an indoor, i dont have exact measurements or anything, but i was consistently an inch or more off to the right. as in point of impact seemed to be an inch or so to the right of my aim.

i have yet to really sight in any gun (only shoot pistols and an old marlin and mosin thus far) so i'm unsure how to really go about it

should i give the front sight a few extra light taps with a punch (and in which direction again?) or should i use the adjustment on the rear sight? (im told i can do this with my fingers and a pen)

please help me repair my ignorance! i want to get ready for appleseed in june

to adjust the front sight: move the front sight left, bullet impact will move right, move the front sight right, bullet impact will move left.

The best way to adjust your sights is not from a bench but from a stable shooting position.

I just bought my first 10/22 a few days ago and have the Tech Sights on the way, so I will be able to help you more when I get those installed.
But listen to smoakingun, he knows what he's about.

+1 for Smoakingun gun. Shoot prone or use a support. When you get a good group, a small group, then move your sights to get on target as he suggested.

One thing though, if you’re only off by an inch and you’ve got the TSR200

I think you should be able to adjust the rear sight to bring you on target.

Smoakingun told you correctly how to adjust the front sight. If you’re adjusting the rear sight it works just the opposite. If you move the rear sight to the right the impact will move to the right. The way I learned it was "move the rear sight in the direction you want your shots to go."
