Adjusting Lyman Tang sight

I just bought a Remington model 8 that has a lyman tang site on it. I'm not familiar with the adjustments on it. Do you have to turn the knurled section on the post until it unlocks and than unscrew the peep rod up? I don't know if anyone will understand what I'm trying to say, but it is an old sight and I'm worried that something is frozen on it so I don't really want to start forcing anything. Any information would be appreciated.

Alex. When you fold the sight down, there may be a set screw at the front. As old as that sight is, it will probably be a slotted head screw. Hopefully the slot won't be all buggered up. Loosen that and turn the knurled part to raise or lower the sight. When you're done adjusting it, tighten the set screw back up to lock the sight setting. I'm basing this on my remake of a Lyman #2 tang sight I installed on a Model 94 Winchester. It uses a hex head screw as a setscrew.
To adjust for windage, move the front sight in the opposite direction you wish the bullet to go. If you're shooting to the left, move the sight to the right. If it's really way off, you might have to shim the tang sight on one side or the other, depending on which way it's off.
Hope this clears it up for you.
