adjustable chokes?

An uncle recommended to me that I get an adjustable choke for use in sporting clays. Anybody out there use one? Are they worth it? What would you recommend?

I've also seen aftermarket chokes (I've got a Rem. 11-87) that extend beyond the barrel and have a knurled texture so no wrench is needed. What's your take on these?

Thanks,
Pops

I use extended chokes in all my O/U clay guns.

Briley and Carlsons make good tubes for just about every gun.

For a single barrel gun like your 1187 I would keep just 3 chokes on hand. Skeet, Improved Cylinder and Modified. You should be able to crush every target on a clay course with these chokes. I'd go with IC most of the time, and only change to mod if the birds are 40 yards out, and go with the skeet if the birds are at point blank range.

I have a skeet tube in my bottom barrel and a IC tube in my top barrel 99% of the time. I like to keep it simple. If I'm on the birds, they will break.

Get interchangeable not adjustable chokes. Most ranges are set up for IC or MOD chokes .I never changed chokes during a course of SC s.You might ask the range owner what it's set up for and pattern the load too.I agree , if you're on the birds they will break .
