Adjust SP101 Front Sight?

My SP101 functions flawlessly except for impacting 6 to 8 inches to the left of point of aim at 25 yards. Any way to correct that besides aiming to the right?

Yes

The barrel could be twisted to the left. That is how mine came from the factory which I don't appreciate as it appears lopsided.

If yours is a hammer spured model (DA & SA), you might try some solid bench rest SA shots using the first pad only of the trigger finger for let off. I understand that most right handed people tend to shoot low and left when shooting free hand. I find that wrapping my left thumb behind the right thumb (shooting hand) and concentrating on a straight through trigger pull has straightened out my shots. Thought I still tend to shoot a little low. This provides for a good solid grip, and for me, gets my left thumb out of the way of the trigger finger when shooting a small revolver.

I also installed some Hogue grips on mine. Just a little larger than the factory grips, but the ability to get my pinky finger on the grip seems to help tame perceived recoil. They also provide additional fill behind the trigger guard, thus eliminating the beating my fore finger used to take with the factory grips.

Try these things first. If it doesn't improve the situation you might consider sending it to the factory for repairs. I don't think there is any practical after market or do it yourself way of correcting this situation with a fixed sight revolver.

I have the same problem with my SP101 except that it only does it on certain days which tells me the problems lies with me. When I see it happening I know I am tired or that my grip and stance are off. I took it to a smith to file down the front site but it still shoots low. I just need to practice a lot more than I have with it.

Great gun! Amzing how it has become one of my favorites.

Good Show

When looking down from the top take a calipers and measure from the edge of the top strap of frame to where the rib on top of the barrel begins. If it is off the measurement on the right won't agree with the left. Also, look down the muzzle end at the gun and it should appear lopsided.

There could be two reasons for this. This could be due to lackadaisical manufacturing (I had a S&W with adjustable sights with the problem). The second reason could be an attempt to get the gun to shoot to point of aim.

Sent the gun into Ruger against my better judgement as Mrs. Customer Service didn't really instill any confidence. Just returned from a week on the road with a letter from Mr. Product Service Manager that service cannot proceed until the trigger job is returned to factory specs. The trigger job is a significant improvement over stock and has nothing to do with the improperly installed barrel. Not cool. Guess we'll be trading it in. Nice work there ya non customer oriented thing. That's what we call a "lose-lose".

Your better judgement was right...BUMMER! If Ruger did that to me..which they would..Id be pissed! A smith would have been a better route....now you basically have an OEM SP101.
Shoot well

That policy is lawyer instilled. If they know something isn't factory spec and return it as such, they're liable. Too many lawsuits and too many attorneys willing to abuse the system.

Good point, but they still made an initial manufacturing error and have ignorant customer service personnel. No harm done, really, as I shall soon be Rugerless and glad. Maybe it's a "win-win".
