Adjust gasblock Browning bar?

AFAIK, the BAR gasblock is not adjustable, gas is regulated by the port size. The forearm screw is threaded into the bottom of the gasblock, but I do not think it controls gas flow. I was under the impression the screw is used to adjust forearm pressure and its effect on accuracy.
That screw acts precisely as a needle valve in a carburetor. Another poster commented on the port size............true for either the first or 2nd designs........the newer ones have a spring retained needle valve screw seated on the side of the gas block............far as adjustment goes I know of no data published as to correct adjustment.........I own two BARs with that system and I have avoided any playing about with those screws......
That said...........if you must.............then mark the current screw position and CAREFULLY count the turns till FULLY closed......you may have to use some sort of marker to do this. To my best guess the job will wind up being a turn and shoot proposition till you get the thing to cycle. Do not just open the thing up all the way if it's not functioning.........if it is short stroking now with what you know is good ammo then you've likely got a blocked port........personally I'd bet that's unlikely as I've shot a lot of cast in a carbine on full auto less any port blockage...........if you've already fooled with it, then you are gonna have to do the shoot and turn act till it works.
FYI, far as I have seen there are THREE distinct gas block styles for the BARs.....both of the first use the ported plug method tho.

My 30.06 BAR, bought new in 1986, has never had cycling or ejection problems, but I’m curious! Why would you agjust the gas regulator? I’ve never putzed with it, but I’ve often wondered about optimum gas pressure.
Can it be tuned to get more accuracy from a specific load? Why did you modify yours? Was it because of problems, or just to improve the design?

OK….copy that! Now it makes sense. I never shoot wimpy loads, but if I can adjust to it for my standard hunting load, I’ll be happy. Thanks!
