Dear Fellow Republican:
Most Americans hoped the end of the Clinton presidency would also be
the end of the Clinton attack machine. But instead of embracing
President-Elect Bush's call for a new bipartisanship, the extreme left is
embracing the politics of personal destruction in attacking the nomination
of Senator John Ashcroft to the position of Attorney General of the United
States.
Senator Ashcroft has been praised by his fellow Senators across the
ideological spectrum as a man of the highest integrity. Yet, extreme
left-wing groups smear Ashcroft as a "racist" because his concerns about
victims' rights and upholding the death penalty led him to oppose one
African-American judge - even though Senator Ashcroft voted to confirm 26
out of 28 African-American judicial nominees put forward by the Clinton
Administration.
Senator Ashcroft needs your help. Please call, fax and e-mail the
Democratic Senators listed at the end of this letter who will be voting on
the Ashcroft nomination. Tell them that the politics of personal
destruction must stop, and urge them to support the nomination of John
Ashcroft.
Take a moment to read the truth about Senator Ashcroft by reading
the facts below and visiting our special website at
http://www.rnc.org/ashcroft.htm. Forward this e-mail to your friends and
family and encourage them to do the same. Only if enough concerned
Americans make their voices heard will we ever get beyond the partisanship
and political smear campaigns that have been all too common these last eight
years. It's time to restore dignity to our political process. Thank you
for your help.
Sincerely,
Chairman Jim Nicholson
