Okay Sisters,

As we all know, 2001 promises to be a very contentious year for the Second Amendment in the State of California.

Nothing new here. Burro Canyon was under fire when I left California 5 years ago. The Gun Owners Action Committee (GOAC) held their Family Day Shoot and Speed Challenge there.

I will contact the founder of GOAC, T.J. Johnston, to see what GOAC is doing on this.

I too am a Burro Canyon user. To give a little background to non-So. Cal people...BC is a place on in the Angeles National Forest that is leased by the Forest Service to a private range operator. It has been there for quite a few years...it contains both a covered outdoor pistol range, but also a long gun range as well. It is also home to a number of private shooting instructors/schools. Greg Block, Top Gun, Max Joseph as well as the abovementioned TJ Johnson all use the range to conduct classes with the cooperation of the range officials.

It is one of the nicest places to go shoot, due to the beautiful mountain setting.

Last week, when Clinton passed his forest protection decree, the Forest Service drove up to BC and basically shut it down ON THE SPOT. They changed locks and would not let any of the private instructors access their storage areas (they each have lockable storage in different places for their equipment/ammo). They gave no warning...they blamed it on the fact that the range operator failed to file some required paperwork on time...

The range operator has refuted this contention. The Forest Service has also made an offer to let them reopen the range IF they conduct an environmental impact study on the area...and file it by March 31st. The process takes approx. 3 years and is incredibly expensive...but it is something that they've been pressuring them about for a while...

So..the FS, acting on their own intitiative, shut down a prime recreation area...and effectively put 4 business owners out of business until they can make other arrangements...not only for a place to shoot...but to buy new loaner guns, replace ammo, etc.

We cannot let them get away with this.

Please contact the above personnel and RESPECTFULLY voice your concern over this.

Thank you
