Acquired a Ruger Redhawk

Gdown

Inactive
Hey, I'm back. I recently picked up a Ruger Redhawk from my Grandfather, and I have to say, I'm VERY pleased with the gun. It shoots great and is in excellent condition. Fortunately, he is as obsessive about cleaning his guns as I am. Also, he had a Leupold scope fitted on it, so it's already set up to go hunting. I just have to get it out to a range to make sure it's sighted in (and just get used to the gun).

(btw, to all those who read my earlier post, it's in 44 magnum, not .357. I thought it was in .357, but it turns out it wasn't. My grandfather's memory is starting to go, so he may have forgotten and told me .357. Either way, I'm VERY pleased with the gun)

Lol I do have to say, though, that having never fired a 44 magnum, I was pretty nervous before shooting it. For some reason, I had the feeling that it was going to pulverize me. I was quite surprised to find that it doesn't kick hard at all. Must be all that weight. It does produce a noticeable shockwave, though.

Maybe I'll get in pictures later. I have a hard time uploading pics to my computer though; I don't know where my camera is, and I can't get my phone to connect to my computer.

Congratulations on getting your Grandpa's Redhawk. Keep it forever. You'll never regret it.

For fun also try shooting some 44 Specials through it. It will be very mild.

I own Redhawks in 45 Colt and 44 Mag and really like those guns.

I think you can look forward to many years with your Redhawk - and it'll always remind you of your Grandpa. Again, congrats.

You will enjoy it. Very versitile gun.
Don't be afraid to shoot it with factory level rounds. But, do wear hearing protection. Very important.
I have one, shot it thousands of rounds a year, many in competition. I'm not very big and had no problem with recoil for most loads up to what I call whoomper-stomper. These were 300 gr. bullets and loaded above book max. (with careful testing)
Those proved very tiring for me. One cylinder was plenty for a practice session.
I use Pachymar Presentation grips and, for me, they really help tame recoil.

My Redhawk & my 2 GPs

are home to stay !!!

Congrats on the RH. If its scoped then it's probably the 7.5"? You'll love that gun, its a tank and very accurate. You will want the Pac grips for it, if they're not on it already. RH's love lead boolits. So much so that I wont shoot copper through mine anymore. Here's mine alongside my SBH.
