ACP/Bilby Kimber upgrade

I just got my Kimber Classic Custom back from Brian Bilby. I had Brian do his deluxe Kimber upgrade package on the pistol, along with a few other goodies.

In short, the pistol is GREAT! Brian's custom work is second to none. I did a
fairly detailed review over on the 1911 forum at www.gunspot.com

Rather than repost it here, have a look over there if you're interested. I hope to get
some pictures posted whenever I can hook up with someone who has a digital camera. Mere words can't do justice to this piece. It is NICE.

For information on Brian's Kimber upgrades and other products and services, check out his website at www.1911custom.com

Hey Roscoe,

Be sure to post us a photo of your Bilby Kimber..
You mentioned that a friend of yours had a barrel Bushing break. I Also had a bushing break on my Kimber as well. I originally thought that it was a MIM part but was informed by the Kimber Custom shop that it is a forged part. Was finishing up a range session and all of a sudden the recoil spring and guide take a short flight downrange. Seems that the ears had broken releasing the guide rod and spring.
Kimber was ver good and replaced the bushing in short order. At that time I ditched the full length guide rod and replaced it with a GI part. No problems since.
You mention on your post about the McCormick slim grips. I have a set of the Slim-Tech stocks on my Officer's ACP and they are made of an incredibly beautiful slab of rosewood, much prettier than the Mahogany stocks the OACP used to wear.

My friend's bushing broke in precisely the manner you describe. Whether the Kimber bushings are MIM'd or not, replacing them with a better quality part seems prudent.

I've used and been happy with the AFS Slim-Tech stocks as well. The McCormick thin stocks are "prettier" mainly by virtue of them being conventionally checkered (in the classic double-diamond pattern) rather than the shallow, laser-scribed(?) "checkering " on the AFS Slim-Tech stocks. Both are GREAT products and I would be satisfied with either maker's stocks. The McCormick stocks use hex-head stock screws too, if one prefers their appearance.

After two trips to the factory, I sent my Gold Match to Brian for him to fix. If I had it to do all over I would have bought the low end Kimber and sent it to Brian before I even bothered to shoot it.

Ron, when Brian was working on my Stainless Target, I saw your Gold Match. Both had the same problem, way too tight chamber.

I am convinced the best thing to do is buy a low end Kimber and send it off. I did that with the Stainless Target and a Classic Stainless. Let Brian work his magic on both of them. Now they are both reliable and d*** good looking.

Roscoe, waiting on the Pics!
