Accuracy International bolt-actions

What's your opinions on the new AX 338 from AI? Is it much of an improvement on the AWM chambered in .338?

Is there such a thing as the AWS-Covert chambered in .338? I like the whole package but the max effective range is just far too short when firing .308.

My first question is what do you intend on doing with the rifle? If range is far too short with the .308 I'm guessing you are wanting to shoot well over 1000 yards. I'm guessing that rifle costs somewhere between about 6-8 grand? If I had that kind of money laying around in my rifle budget I'd build a SWEET custom that would make a better target rifle than the Accuracy International. If you're a military/LE sniper, or trying to live out some tactical Call Of Duty fantasy I could see laying down the cash for such a rifle. But if you're just shooting targets, a more accurate target rifle can be built for less. The AI rifles are indeed very accurate, but for what they cost, they darn well better be.

I'm of the opinion "it's not yours if you didn't build it." That being said, if for some reason I was going to buy a complete rifle, or action it would probably be surgeon.

As an aside, every time it see 'AI' I think Ackley Improved. All hail Saint Ackley!

Harry1, this is suppose to be the different

Based on the DNA of the battle proven AW series, the advanced new generation AX338 bolt action rifle inherits all the toughness, reliability, superb accuracy and ease of maintenance of its celebrated predecessor. The AX rifle’s Magnum action retains the same flat-bottomed design, but is longer (CIP/SAAMI) and wider to facilitate a compact and reliable double stack 10 round magazine.

In the AW you can get a 300mag if that helps
