According to the FBI ballistic gel testing, what caliber and bullets can out penetrate the .357 sig 125 grain speer gold dot?

I have heard many people say there are .40 bullets that can out penetrate through barriers the 357 sig gold dot.

Super-Dave, it took less than 5 minutes to find the test results you want by using a common internet search engine. You may want to try that.

Do add to the loud complaints about your latest entry, a .38sp 148gr wadcutter range load will penetrate several people if they stand in line. Is this what you are after?

All I an find on the internet is data for the bare geletin and clothed geletin.

Several times on this forum people have said there are .40 that penetrates hard barriers better than .357 sig gold dot.

I am curious which bullet that is?

What kind of hard barriers? Windshield glass, wallboard, sheet metal? All of them?

Which manufactures and what .40 caliber bullet weights?

Who are all these people who were saying this? Its not the infamous they is it?

Super Dave, you may find this site interesting here . Someone posted it in another thread and I saved it. Lot of shooting through tests on it.

You found bare gelatin and clothed gelatin tests on your internet search. What do you think the FBI puts over their gelatin for better results, human skin??? ;)

Hang in there, Super-Dave, one of these days you'll settle on a cartridge and load you can depend on. For me, the final decision was a 5-shot snubby loaded with 158gr +P LSWCHP. That's it. One gun. No extra rounds.

I'm just curious about how the .357 sig with Gold Dot ammo became such a good penetrator.

It's a good self-defense load, no doubt, but it's not all that hard to find a cartridge/load that will out-penetrate it.

I am talking penetration through, metal, wood, etc.

Many times around here people say that there are .40 that penetrate hard barriers better than .357 sig. I just want to know what .40 jhp can penetrate hard barriers better than the .357 sig gold dot.

Looks like they were saying it, because its true.

FBI Ammo Test....

Winchester Wins FBI .40 S&W Ammunition Contract

Winchester's enhanced .40 S&W service ammunition is a 180-grain, bonded jacketed hollow point round and was selected over all other rounds that were tested. The FBI tests the terminal ballistics of each round by shooting a specific test protocol through various barriers such as heavy cloth, wallboard, plywood, steel and auto glass into ballistic gelatin.

Winchester Law Enforcement

On the Winchester page above, you can use their comparison tool and compare the 180 grain bonded .40 vs the 125 gr .357 Sig. Its found by clicking Ammunition Testing.

You should learn the ancient art of Goggle-Fu :) There are many, many more articles on this subject to be found on teh internets.

Buffalo Bore makes a rather nice loading:
180gr. Gold Dot moving at 1350 fps with 782 ft. lbs in a .40 caliber (in this example better known as 10mm auto); I think that this one will do.

Although if penetration is what you are looking for, you might consider fmj.

Say it is not so! Not here too! They sure get around!

OMG OMG OMG OMG!

JUST BUY A BOX OF NAME BRAND HP AMMO ALREADY!

Seriously, most of the major players ammo will perform
very similar to the others. Pick a caliber you like to shoot and go with it.
You'll be fine. Good luck. Now go shoot.

either post an answer to the OP's question or DON'T post anything at all, geez! Most of the heavier grain 40's and .45's will outpenetrate the sig round.

HERE WE GO AGAIN !!!

With your obsession for loads that penetrate all sorts of hard material, and if your concerns are for a CCW firearm, I hope you have a good lawyer.
If you ever shoot through car doors, windshields, plywood, etc in a self defense situation, an anti CCW prosecutor would have a field day!

Try a hammer and nails. They penetrate like all get out.

This is getting a little more than tiresome, and people are getting cranky.

Closed before something really bad goes wrong.
