Having just got off the State of Florida's web site regarding CCWs,
I was unable to locate specifics on the required "Proof of Training". I'm thinking probably the NRA Basic Pistol Course or NRA Personal Defense Course ... Possibly NRA "FIRST Steps" Pistol certificate ... ???

Just curious if any Florida TLFers can enlighten me on the complete list of acceptable "proof of training"(other than licenses from other states) . Thanks. Greybeard.

Try this link:
http://licgweb.dos.state.fl.us/weapons/apply.html

You can request an app online, and they ship it out right away. It will list all the acceptable documents - there are a lot.

I came here from VT (still no permits required there :D ), and used a photocopy of my Hunter Safety Card from the class I took in'78, and that was good enough. It took almost three months to get the permit, so I didn't go out much during that time, but it was worth waiting.

Thanks.

' Got on-line appl. completed.

Compared to Texas hoops, I find it amazing that they will accept a hunter ed. card ...

Last time I checked, a DD-214 works. If you don't know what a DD-214 is, then ignore this. (DD-214 = military discharge document).

From Florida Statutes S790.06:

(h) Demonstrates competence with a firearm by any one of the following:

1. Completion of any hunter education or hunter safety course approved by the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission or a similar agency of another state;

2. Completion of any National Rifle Association firearms safety or training course;

3. Completion of any firearms safety or training course or class available to the general public offered by a law enforcement, junior college, college, or private or public institution or organization or firearms training school, utilizing instructors certified by the National Rifle Association, Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission, or the Department of State;

4. Completion of any law enforcement firearms safety or training course or class offered for security guards, investigators, special deputies, or any division or subdivision of law enforcement or security enforcement;

5. Presents evidence of equivalent experience with a firearm through participation in organized shooting competition or military service;

6. Is licensed or has been licensed to carry a firearm in this state or a county or municipality of this state, unless such license has been revoked for cause; or

7. Completion of any firearms training or safety course or class conducted by a state-certified or National Rifle Association certified firearms instructor;

A photocopy of a certificate of completion of any of the courses or classes; or an affidavit from the instructor, school, club, organization, or group that conducted or taught said course or class attesting to the completion of the course or class by the applicant; or a copy of any document which shows completion of the course or class or evidences participation in firearms competition shall constitute evidence of qualification under this paragraph; any person who conducts a course pursuant to subparagraph 2., subparagraph 3., or subparagraph 7., or who, as an instructor, attests to the completion of such courses, must maintain records certifying that he or she observed the student safely handle and discharge the firearm;

Very interesting. Thanks again guys for all the info.

It appears that in addition to the currently (only!!!) 7 states where a Texas CHL is recognized reciprocity-wise, the Florida CCW is good for at least another dozen ... :cool:

Could make for lots of friendly territory between Miami and El Paso. :) Come on New Mexico! Hello Arizona!

I find it kind of funny that they will accept a DD-214 since there are some people who never even handled a firearm in boot camp, much less during the rest of their enlistment.

(yeah, I know it's a late reply)

DD-214

NGB-22 also works. It was enough to get "Veteran" on my ID. Given that I was on near constant duty in the Guard, I also have a DD-214.

20 years of retirement points in the 9.5 years I was in. I was busy.....
