Above the Crimp Groove

My recently purchased Ruger m77/44's magazine will not accept my 260gr EK bullets I traditionally use in my revolvers because of their length. Will it negatively effect performance if I were to seat these bullets slightly lower, perhaps above the crimp grove, so that the mag will accept them?

Will it negatively effect performance...?
Not if you seat first (penny under the lock ring), then pull the penny/-
unscrew the seating stem up several turns crimp separately into the
cleaning band.

No problemmo.

*by EK I'm assuming a cast Keith SWC, and that the OAL change is relatively small.

You can ignore the crimp groove altogether and seat to the Max OAL.
Hodgdon gives 1.600" as the OAL for a 270 grain bullet. 1.710" for a 355 grain bullet. Both are handgun load lengths. Despite the SAAMI max being 1.610". Minimum is 1.535".
