What was the model number of the 2" - 3" snubby(s) they put out in .45 ACP and or .45 LC? I'm thinking it was the model 25-2 but I am not positive about my S&W revolver lore.

Secondly how available are these and what would they be valued at?

Thanks,

Dave

The 2" was a Performance Center 625.

Both the 3" versions in stainless were regular production 625's. (discontinued)

The 2.75" ScTi version is a 325PD.

Mine is a 25-5. I know I have had it well over 20 years, and bought it used.
Mine has a 6 inch pinned barrel, and has the firing pin on the hammer.

Hi,
There are the 25-2's (.45acp)and 25-5's (.45lc) that a gunsmith named Jovino customized in the late '70's and early '80's. He took a 25-2, cut the barrel down to approx. 2 3/4 inches, replaced the front sight with the original, added a ball/detent lockup, trimmed the grip down from a N square to a K round, and reblued the whole thing. There were other gunsmiths that did this also like Austin Belhert, Camfour, and I think Lew Horton did some too. Don't take this as gospel because I don't know for sure, but it's what I can piece together from the S&W forum. They are awesome guns and pretty hard to find. Here's my 25-2:

Perfect!!

Rob, that is a great looking gun!! I have two (2) of the 25-2 Smiths. Both have the 6 inch barrel (pinned) and the firing pin made on the hammer. Both have had a lot of gunsmith work and shoot great but neither is a suitable carry gun. I would like to have one like the one you pictured. I'd say you have a classic.

As far as I know (and I bought mine new, back in the early 80s) Smith never offered a factory version in 2 inch or even 3 inch. When the 625s came out they did offer some shorter barrels.

Smith did make a 625 model of 1988 with a 3" barrel in stainless. Nice gun and pre MIM. Keep an eye on gunbroker.com some interesting stuff shows up now and then.

In 1977 S&W made some 3" Model 25-3s in .45acp for Lew Horton. I have heard, but can't verify, that some of these were also made in .45 Colt. Today these would be collector's items. IF you could find one, it would be pricey.
