? about Rem 9mm ammo

Hello everyone,
While reading many 9mm threads over the last few months, and an interesting one going on now (9mm good for defense???). I see the Rem. 124 gr. Golden Saber +P often recommended. Several weeks ago I tried various loads out on the chronograph including these. From a Glock 17 I got an avg. velocity of 1124 fps. This was slower than Speer Gold Dot 124 gr. non +P (1139 fps). This velocity is also easily obtainable in a hand load with a below maximum powder charge. My question then - did I get a hold of a bad lot? Or is the Golden Saber design what makes it so great? Thanks, Gene

Hi Gene,
I have not as yet had to shoot anyone, so I have no first hand experience with the terminal ballictics of the round, nor do I own a chronograph. I chose RGS because it was the one hollowpoint round that ALL of my 9mm's "liked". All the other brands that I tried ( I spent a small fortune to find this out) either gave reliability problems in one or more of my guns, or the accuracy just was not there. Rem. GS was the overall winner.

I might not be able to explain to properly but I'll give it a try. Since you've been following the other posts, you know that there are two opposing schools of thought with regard to what is best. There is no single bullet that either side agrees on but if you were to go down the list from both schools, Gold Dot and Golden Saber have the higest COMBINE score as rated by BOTH schools. Both sides rate other bullets higher but Golden Saber and Gold Dot have the best score from both schools OVERALL. Does that make sense? Can somebody help me out here with this explanation?

Thanks for the responses guys. denfoote, its good to hear about the reliability. Given this round has such a long fat profile, I had concerns. I had no reliability problems in the Glock but I only fired the one box. Going back to my original thoughts though, is 1139 fps right for the 124 gr. +P Golden Saber? This seems pretty lame for a 124 gr. +P. I wondered, does the brass jacket bullet run slower than traditional copper? Did I get a bad lot of ammo? Anyone know what Remington's claimed velocity is for this round? Thank's Gene
