? About a 1980's Remington 870 police

I have located a Remington 870 that the seller says is a Wingmaster and is parkerized. Did Remington offer a shotgun back then that was factory parkerized? He says it's a police even though it says wingmaster only. Suppose to be never fired. Also I did a Internet search and came up with some info that says if it's parkerized it's an Express and not a wingmaster. I'm confused. I can post a pic later.

He is asking $550

Seems a bit rich

Worth it?

The gun is 400 miles away so all I have is his word that its a Wingmaster

I have a Remington 870 Police gun from 1987. It doesent say police, only "wingmaster" and "magnum" on it. Its blued steel, no engraving, and has a 20" barrel with rifle sights, and a walnut stock.

Its the bottom shotgun in this picture.

I paid $350 for mine from a retired Sherrif's deputy. I think $500 may be a bit high for a gun that looks like its been worked over to me.

Ask for a picture of the left side of the receiver. That's where it'll say Wingmaster, or not.

Can't comment on the price. Your market is different from ours but you could look for something comparable on www.gunbroker.com to use as a guide.

Older Police models were stamped as Wingmasters in the pre-Express days, but over the years Remington has used a number of markings.

If its from the 80's and doesn't say "Express" it isn't.
I "think" the Express line was introduced in 1987.

Remington did offer parkerized Police guns back then, the wood was usually hard wood with a walnut stain and oil finish, no checkering and the Police short, grooved fore end.

Thanks for the help/info everyone.

I think its a bit overpriced. I'm on the fence about this one. I am going to go to the gun-show tomorrow and see what is available. If this guy still has his gun for sale next week I might buy it.

Have you looked at Cabels'a?

I don't know if you are anywhere near a Cabelas store. I got an add in the mail yesterday with a $300 Remington 870 Express with a 20 inch barrel and a 3 shot magazine extension. That sound like what you are looking at (or better) for $200 less. Thought you ought to know. BTW, Big 5 has the same gun for the same price.
