Abercrombie & Fitch Single Shot 28ga

I just got a Single Shot 28ga Shotgun. It's a 'breakdown' model that folds in half. It has a vented rib, checkerd forearm and stock, SS or Nickel reciever, with some engraving on the reciever and back of the barrel. It breaks open via a lever that you pull like a trigger in front of the trigger guard; the lever looks like an extra thick target S&W trigger. The lever fits into the forearm when the gun is folded in half. It has a button safety on the trigger guard.

It's marked

Abercrombie & Fitch
Made in Italy on one side

And the other side has

M.A.V. I di Salvinelli
Gardone VT = Brescia

It has '28' right in the middle of the back of the top of the barrel.

So, what is it? Promotional gun? Commerative? Import copy? I think Berettas are made in Brescia, and I've seen reference to high dollar guns with the Gardone name on them.

Any help would be appreciated. I'll post pics as soon as I can.

Remo Salvinelli made these guns (for sale by Abercrombie & Fitch, and others) before 1967; after 1967, he formed a partnership with Mario Abbiatico to become FAMARS. "Brescia" and "Gardone" (Gardone, Val Trompia) are the area in Northern Italy where most Italian guns are made.

IIRC, these are called Knockabouts. More commonly 20 gauge, they were a decent quality single that made a good truck gun, survival gun for bush pilots and so on.

George, if there's any good moral reason for shunning these, I'd like to see it. Thanks....

George,
Historically Abercrombie & Fitch used to have quite an impressive outdoors outfitters department. They contracted for quite a range of fine guns to be made with their name on them. A&F imported guns from fine London guns to cheap Belgium and Spanish models. Other models came from France and Italy.

In more recent times they have become a clothing store and a trashy one at that, but they were once a formidable sporting goods distributor.

Once.

Now they are sexualizing little kids... they piss me off big time.
I'm sure the shotgun is fine. I just want to choke the life out of those guys right now. They make me sick. They are putting out child porn and calling it a "Catalog" and putting cherries and "Eye Candy" on thongs for 10 year old girls... and then have the balls to say that if you have a problem with it - then YOUR the one with the problem.

Choking... naw...
Flamethrowers.

Long way down, A&F. Not having been one of the cool kids in high school, I've never owned a piece of clothing with the designer's logo on it (I'm not going to pay you to advertise for you.) I think it's...preppie.

However, A&F has stooped to a new low, Marketing thong underwear (that has the words "eye candy" written on it), not to 17 year old girls, not to 14 year old girls, but to 8-10 year old girls (though they cover the other ages too). That's beyond repulsive.

* PICS *

A couple of pics of the gun.
