AA 2495 30-30 loads

I really like my two 30-30 rifles. They will do about all I need anymore for hunting deer. So I have an 8 pound keg of AA 2495 I bought as a sort of generic do everything powder. Of course it will not do "everything" for all all the rifle rounds I load. It is not that great a powder for 243 but would work in a pinch. But for 30-06, 8x57, 7x57, 223 and 30-30 it will do a fair job.

So I am curious about who uses AA 2495, IMR 4895 and H 4895 in 30-30 loads and what grain charges you are using. I have load manuals and just printed off the newest data from AA/Western powders but would like to hear some real world experiences.

I have 500 once fired cases, 500 Remington bullets I bought many years ago and a mix of large rifle primers. I like to make a loading run when I reload. Like a couple hundred rounds at one time. So any good loads you can recommend would be appreciated.

The funny thing about the newest AA guide is that 150gr bullets have a max of 30.5 grs and 170gr bullets show a max load of 32.2grs. I sort of wonder if they have the data flip flopped on those?

I use IMR-4895, which is supposed to be a very similar powder. I mostly use 170 grain bullets. Those charge weights you quoted do seem like they are mixed to me. Contact the powder manufacturer to verify. You should find that this powder is very well-suited for use in the 30-30.

Well I just got an email back from "Don" at Ramshot powders and my question about the load data on the 30-30 and 2495 powder. Here is his response.

"Thank you for the heads up. The load data for the 150gr bullet is good, but the 170gr data should be changed to: start charge 26.6gr at 1844fps and a maximum charge at 29.5gr at 2095fps".

So I hope this will help any others using this powder. He stated the mistake will be corrected.

And he offered to send me a free hat for the heads up. WooHoo!
