AA 2230 for 223 Rem

I'm thinking of getting a Rem 700 VTR in 223. I already load 223 for my T/C Encore rifle but with the VTR's faster twist rate I could load heavier bullets than I do for the Encore, specifically the 69gr SMK . This got me thinking of other powders to try in 223. I did a search for AA 2230 but now Google sends my phone notifications when American Airlines flight 2230 departs JFK for Miami. Anyone use AA 2230 in 223 and how well does it work? What other powders have you guys found that give best accuracy in 223 with heavier bullets? I've used N133 and H322 with good results but with lighter bullets.

Google, I love you, but sometimes you are a dumbass.

Sierra 50th Anniversary Edition:
Sierra 69 grain Match King BTHP
AA 2230 Powder
Start: 21.6 Grains
Max: 23.5 Grains
C.O.A.L. 2.260"

Something to try...

If you want top velocities, with SGK65'S then AA2520 is excellent. AA2230 is too fast for heavy bullets.
CFE223 is another very good slower powder.

AA2230 here too

I've been loading for pistol for 32 years; but not a single rifle cartridge.

That's soon gonna change.

Last year (almost; I mean 2016), I built out two AR's starting with bare lower receivers. (I had a guy who knows his stuff help me.) Anyway, they have been sitting in my safe for the past nine months and yesterday, I finally took one out for a shoot. Got it sighted in for 50 yards (Lucid reflex). I'm a pistol guy, but it was really a pleasure to shoot - point n click - nothing to it. But I digress . . .

I'm going to load for .223 Rem here pretty soon. I have bought two Sierra bullets (55gn HP, & Spitzer), and one Hornady (55gn V-max); CCI 400 primers; and AA2230 powder.

So I've kind of been wondering myself on how I did for powder selection. Not meaning to hijack the post; I'm just kind of in the same situation.

Nick, for 60 grains on down, AA2230 is a pretty good choice. It works for 69s and even 77s, just not as accurate nor as efficient as the slower powders.

I started loading .223 with 2300. Used a number of pounds and it meters great. Since then I've moved on to H-335 simply because it works in .308 a bit better. I would not hesitate to recommend 2300. AA-2200 is another good choice.

Thanks guys. Question answered. I have tons of questions regarding loading for .223 Rem. But I'll reserve that for my own post(s). Thanks again.

Thanks for the replies. It looks like I would be better off with a slower powder for the 69gr SMK. In the meantime I will use up my H322 and N133 in my Encore. And like Nick, lots of pistol shooting. Won't be Googling "AA" powders anymore either. Always spell out "Accurate Arms." ;)

I use it for 55 gr FMJ loads. I also have 4198 for the same purpose. AA 2230 v 4198 in the measure'er >2230 is much easier to measure (no doubt about that)
The heaviest bullet weight for 223 I reload are 64 gain SP. They are not as accurate as the 55gr and one other lighter bullet weight from my bolt gun due to its lazy twist. i.e. Older Rem model 7.

My Experience: I have tried 69 gr hornadys But they only seem to group fairly decent out of a 1-7 twist. Although I have also fired the same 69 gr. from a 1-9 twist which turned out to group> OK.
69s touched off out of my Model 7_ typical response i.e. {" Oops!! Now where that one go Fred? "}

Frankly: The most accurate bullet weight I've found for my purposes >Yote Hunting< in the .224 weights. 52 gr HPs. "What A dandy shoot'in littl bullet."
