A very pleasant surprise

Well, it's 9.00 p.m. Tues 21 March as I write -- the last few hours of my 50th birthday.

I did very well -- the latest hardbacks from Dean Koontz, Clive Cussler and my first favourite, Stephen King; some nice cabernet sauvignon; some cash ;); a pair of RM Williams moleskin trousers (a size bigger than they used to be, but, hey ....)

Then my wife gave me her present -- a birthday card. Inside, it said (among other things), "Sorry I couldn't collect your present, but Mr Alexander has it".

It had me stuffed, until ... bingo! I realised that Perth's best gunstore is "Roy Alexander and Sons". Di had been in and organised a new over-and-under 12g for me!!! She couldn't collect it because of our gun laws -- in fact, it'll probably be another week or so before I can take possession (if the police don't kick up about it).

My wife isn't a keen shooter herself -- but she knows I am. Gotta love her -- she also knows I would never have bought myself a shotgun, 'cause of the expense.

Oh, well ... just had to share that with my friends. Another glass of red and I'm off to bed.

Goodnight all ...

B

Bruce,
Happy Birthday, (It's still your birthday here in Indiana.) Sounds like you had a good one.

to go pick up something for myself. :)

HC: As a very good friend of mine (one Kevin Bloody Wilson) says: "For a bloke your age, there's a lot of wanker left in you" ;)

Thanks people: I apparently have a choice of about half a dozen shotties :) After Saturday, I'll let you know more.

Happy birthday Bruce. Hope you enjoy your new shotgun.

Could you please give us a brief overview of the current guns laws there.

Also what you see as the good, the bad, and the ugly part of this gun control.

Your reply is appreciated.

Wow - congrats... fine gifts indeed. Lucks... for my 30th I got a Gargoyle.

50 huh? Dang - I bet those chats with John Browning back when TFL was still via telegraph where pretty interesting...

:D

One last birthday greeting, but I gotta hurry. Great woman you've got there! :)

Bruce, better back off on the wine ... you're starting to stutter ... ;)

And, anyone else here wish the folks from OZ would use English. ;)

One of the neatest things about TFL is the chance to compare notes with folks from around the world, isn't it!?

Regards from AZ

Happy B-day Bruce........congrats on the stuff........and just remember what Mr. Dundee says.

"That's not a cabernet........THIS is a cabernet"

(yes I am a dumb american....who loooooves those stupid movies ;))

Hey Bruce, during WWII the Allies used American Indians transmitting general orders in their own language & the Japs never did break the "code".

Whatcha say maaate for the next shindig we get a buncha cobbers together, throw back a few Darwin stubbies, gets ourselves really soused & give the toppers in charge a lend of our rubber bands? :D
Heh heh heh.... ;)

HS:

Blood oath, cobs, I'm a dead cert starter for that!!

These septics are not bad jokers, but fair dinkum, tryin' to understand what the hell they're rabbiting on about gives you a fair pain in the ringpiece. Arrgh, open the Esky and chuck us a tinny, will ya, I'm as dry as a mother-in-law's kiss. Pull up a pew and we'll have a natter about it.

;)
