Ahhhh the infamous $hit sandwich huh? Eventually the Jennings ended up where a POS should end up.
More likely it was a trick "Cornfed" learned in jail. I've never seen first hand, but have heard stories that body cavities can hold a lot of contraband. Harry Houdini was a master of swallowing foreign objects such as a hammer and a wrench, and later regurgitating them on demand.

I read the bio on Houdini and learned how he trained himself to regurgitate. He did this by tieing a piece of string to a piece of raw potato. He would swallow it using the string to stop it from going all the way down. Then using the string to pull it out. By practicing this he was able to do it without the string. He used this to swallow keys that would allow him to get out of shackles, jails etc. Very interesting special skill.
