A "Tactical" Rem. 7400?

This message is in relation to Nightcrawler's thread.

The subject is, since "assault" and "battle" rifles are pretty well
regulated as to what you can get (unless you build it yourself-
I'm considering putting together a FAL- my M14 is a bit too
pricey now to bash around in the woods), has anyone ever
heard of someone taking sporting rifles (like the Browning BAR
and the Remington 7400) and "militarizing" them? I know that
there is a company (I disremember it's name) that converts
Russian Siagas to an AK pattern rifle, but has this been
applied to any other guns?

(And if not, why? I think it's a neat idea....)

It's black and ugly...I mean, tactical.

Overall, though, I think it'd be a neat idea. The SAIGA is a natural choice because it's an AK to begin with, and is BASED on a military rifle. I don't know how reliable a Remington 7400 or BAR would be in the dirt and mud, compared to a FAL or a G3, though. The big thing about the conversions is magazines. The BAR's magazine kind of rotates in in such a fashion that it'd be a serious modification to make it take another kind. But hell...a Browning BAR Mk. II with nice wood furniture, iron sights, modified to take FAL magazines (if it was .308, 7mm-08, or .243)? I'd pay for that, if it worked well.
