HUD's Cuomo says would accept VP candidacy

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Andrew Cuomo said Thursday he would
accept an offer to run for vice president alongside Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore.
Cuomo, son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo, also said he was considering vying for his father's old post.
News reports have described him as a potential running mate for the Gore ticket.
"Obviously it's flattering to have your name suggested as vice president of the United States and I am considering
running for governor but that's down the road," Cuomo told reporters during a visit to Israel.
"Would I accept it? Yes, I would accept it," he said, referring to the vice presidential candidacy.
Cuomo signed an agreement Thursday with Israeli Construction and Housing Minister Yitzhak Levy to set up a joint
commission on housing and community development.
The two countries will cooperate on project ideas for expanding affordable housing options, increasing home ownership
opportunities and improving construction technology.

"[Even if there would be] few tears shed if and when the Second Amendment is held to guarantee nothing more than the state National Guard, this would simply show that the Founders were right when they feared that some future generation might wish to abandon liberties that they considered essential, and so sought to protect those liberties in a Bill of Rights. We may tolerate the abridgement of property rights and the elimination of a right to bear arms; but we should not pretend that these are not reductions of rights." -- Justice Scalia 1998
