Hi, This is sort of a strange question. I know many use engine oil to lube guns in general with Mobil 1 or similar syn oils being popular. But, has anyone tried using a automotive grease on rails etc?
Let me back up a bit. I had to do brakes on both my truck and wife's car and bought an 8oz container of synthetic brake and caliper grease. That was a few years back. Had to do them again and the performance of that stuff is light years ahead of using axle grease. Takes the high temps of the brakes and laughs at it. No sign of thickening or gumming up from the temps and time.
Flash forward to now; I was cleaning some all steel guns and looked at the brake grease on the shelf, then back at the guns, then at the grease, then .... well the guns now have a light application of synthetic brake grease on the rails now. The guns seem to like it fine.
Just wondering if anyone else has experimented in this way?
