I submited a post a few weeks ago regarding Sako Rifles and you mentioned that I could by a remington rifle and invest the difference in price between the Sako and the Remington in it and have a very nice rifle.

I am interested in what you would do to the Remington. I may go this route and am curious to know what kind of tuning you would recomend.

Starting with a new rifle the first step is to break in the barrel and see how it was shooting as a starting point.

Then it would go off to the gunsmith for a trigger job, trueing the action, lapping the bolt lugs, recrowning the barrel, bedding the action, and free floating the barrel as required. I would have magazine/feeding work done if the rifle wasn't feeding correctly and have the floor plate release smoothed up if needed. I would have the barrel fire lapped if it were a little rough.

I would then reshoot to determine the improvement in accuracy. If I had money left over and wanted something else done I might send the barrel off for cryogenic freezing just to see if it actually works.

When it comes to customizing a rifle that would be a good start for a factory rifle. The next steps would be a new barrel and new stock but that would probably put you over the cost of a new Sako.
