A question for LEOs about LEOs.

I have a question for the LEOs here.

Setting: On your way to work (in uniform) you stop by a busy fast food joint. You walk in and get in line. There are at least 10 people in line including a "soccer mom" with 3 kids. In front of you is a guy who pays you no attention, other than he knows a LEO is behind him. As he is reaching for his wallet he has to pull up his un-tucked t-shirt, when he does he prints something that you are sure is a pistol.

So what if anything do you do? He is not acting nervous or giving any indication that he is doing anything other than buying a burger. You know the soccer mom will freak if a gun is mentioned. Do you mention it to him, ask for his permit, point out his problem or something else like asking for the gun and permit?

Also how do you think the people you work with would react? Around here the county guys would just shrug it off and want to know what you were carrying. The city cops are pretty nasty about these things.

Bear in mind your responses are going to vary based on whether the officer answering lives in a CCW state or not.
In my case I worked in non-CCW states, Missouri and Florida before they had CCW. If the person acts as you say I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt.....to a point. Again, like many of these hypothetical scenarios, it would depend on my own interpretation of his mode of dress, body language, time of day, type of neighborhood. All of these things play a major roll in how anyone, police officer or other wise, will react to any given situation.
In this situation based on the limited info and assuming we know basically what you are asking I would wait until he had filled his order. I would then very descretely ask him to step outside keeping his hands away from his body. Once outside I would politely explain why I had asked him out side and ask for an explaination for why he was carrying a gun. Now bear in mind that this is in a non-CCW state. In a CCW I'd place my order and leave.
As discussion on the thread progresses I'll explain why if needed.

What I was really trying to get at was " How would the majority of LEOs react to this situation?". I have a general idea of how most here would react.

For anyone else posting to this thread I'll throw in the guy is clean cut, 30'ish, and also carrying a date planner in a neighborhood close to an industrial park.

Glad to read Gunslinger's response.

Personally, I'd be offended if an officer confronted me, since AZ has CCW, and is generally quite reasonable re: firearms. However, from what I hear, Tucson LEO's might pull such a stunt. We're going to excommunicate Tucson, if we can get just a few more votes ... ;)

Regards from AZ

Somebody actually eats at a Mcdonald's? Do hey serve food there? To answer your question, I'm not going to do a thing. I don't really care if he's carrying or not.

It doesnt appear that he is a threat, so I no reason to beleive that he is anything but a citizen totin a gun.

Here in Arkansas lots of people carry guns.
It's not a big deal to see several outlines at any resturant you go to.

Not a big deal unless you are a Yankee. They tend to run away and piss all over themselves when they see a gun. But it does make the lines shorter....

Texas being an enlighened place, I'd tend to ignore the situation. The individual in the scenario is not fidgety, not really exposing the pistol and is not obviously breaking any law.

We could "IF" this into a quite different situation, of course, but given the cicumstances described, I'd go about my business and leave the guy alone. Isn't this the way cops ought to act?

Best,
Johnny
