A Question about TWS, Inc.

I am still waiting to talk to Todd from this company because I ordered 4 surplus GI mags (30 round) in good condition and two of them don't work. Have any of you ever heard of this company or dealt with them?

One of the mags will allow a round to feed into the AR if the round is stacked on the right side of the stagger but if it is on the left side the bolt just slides over the round and chambers NOTHING! When the bolt slides over the round it scratches the brass something fierce. What the hell causes this? It's probably because the round isn't pushed up far enough to be caught by the bolt. Is it the lip that holds the rounds in place?

The other mag, when inserted, won't even allow me to pull the charging handle back! The mag is very beat up and I'm guessing there is probably metal sticking up too far somewhere on the mag (maybe the lips) that is keeping the bolt from being pulled back.

All four mags fit into the gun and lock into place. Two of them work flawlessly. I hope I don't get screwed by this guy. I'm still trying to call him.

Please help me with my inquiries about the first mag.

Thanks,

Joel

The mag with the left side problem probably has its left lip set too low for the round to properly present itself to the bolt. You could try to carefully raise it a little bit (half a mm at a time or less).

ditch them...

Take the unreliable magazines back to the armory and they will be glad to give you new replacements. Or just give them to your fire team leader and he will get you fresh ones.

Oh sorry just having a Marine Corps flash back...

Corporal R.L. Holmes, Marine Rifleman (0311), 1st Bn 9th Marines, 1st MarDiv, 1980 to 1984, turned 18 in bootcamp at Parris Island. The Drill Instructors still cursed and beat recruits in those days.

Joel,

I'm going to send your thread over to the Art of the Rifle Forum. A lot of "technicians" hang out there.

If that doesn't work, try the Smithy Forum.
