A question about gun laws

I live in Kentucky and I don't have my CCW liscence yet. I know Open Carry is legal here, but I'm wanting to know what other ways are legal for me to transport a firearm from point A to point B around here. For instance, i'm assuming it's legal if I have it in it's case. Are there other methods that are legal?

Shut in the case, in a different part of the vehicle, seperate from the ammo, is always a good bet.

Does that mean I shouldn't have a mag in the gun ( or even in the section of the case designed for them?)

Bobk's got it right.

I was being a wiseass. If you can't access the gun and the ammo, and your state has a problem, you should move. But his answer is the LEGALLY APPROPRIATE one.

KRS reads that you can transport the firearm loaded in your glove box, but be advised that the glove box is just that, the box on the passenger side of the vehicle, not the center console, and not a drawer under the seat like in some minivans. If you don't have a glove box, you can have it on your dash in plain sight. You cannot be wearing it on your hip unless you have a ccw. you can't have it laying on the seat unless you have a ccw. you can also carry it in your trunk.

BTW, if you're new to KY, don't try to open carry in downtown Louisville. you'll be cited for "creating a disturbance" even though the only ones who are usually disturbed by this exercise of your kentucky constitutional rights are the local constabulary.

The case thing is useful if you are going to Indiana to shoot and don't have a ccw.

Here's a link to the section of Kentucky law regarding carry in a motor vehicle. Section (8) deals with the matter in question

and here's a link to the constitution, section 1. Of note is the Seventh right. Note that congress can only regulate the concealed carry. It is this article which affirms our right to carry open.
