A pocket-full of power.......

With heart palpitations and trembling hands, I plunked down $579 for a Smith & Wesson 340SC in .357 mag. I've been vacillating back and forth with this gun since it's introduction. Planned carry load? Probably RBCD TFSP's or Magsafe defenders. Quite a quantum-leap from my former carry piece: a KelTec P32.
The gun range where I bought it was temporarily closed to install upgraded exhaust ducting so test-firing will have to wait. (DRAT!) It nestles down in my Uncle Mike's size 3 soft, flexible pocket holster and both the weight and size are practically unnoticeable, something that is a premium with pocket-carry.

Cograts, Jeff!

As much as I like Magsafe, I like RBCD more. Jeff OTMG hasn't been around much lately, but I talked to him on the phone a couple of weeks ago. We BOTH think RBCD is just about the best ammunition that ever came down the 'pike. RBCD is loaded to regular pressure. (NO +P) I think that 12 ounce .357 won't hurt your hand as much (maybe not at all) with the cylinder full of RBCD. And a .357 RBCD round has stats of: 1975fps/520ft.lbs at the muzzle!

Congratulations!

Yeah, that sticker shock (on a snub!) is something, but it only comes once, and you'll get over it right quick. I ended up doing a fair amount of shooting different ammo before I figured out what worked best for me. I'm a big heavy/penetrating bullet believer, and find that my 340 shoots 158 gr.s considerably more accurately than anything else, so that's where I've settled (shooting mostly .38s, mind you; but enough .357 to know what it's like if I actually had to shoot more than the 3 .38 +p that come first in my carry line-up). Just doing the shooting to find out what works best for you and your gun will be an adventure. Just don't try to do it all in one day, and your hand and wrist will thank you!

I agree completely....

Kentucky Rifle: I toted RBCD in my P32 for awhile but worried about it feeding/ejecting properly. No such worries with RBCD in the 340SC. I think it's the absolute future in self-defense ammo. The very lightweight 60 gr projectile should create less recoil than some of the heavier bullets and you gotta like that 500+ lbs of energy! Guess I'll give Roscoe Stoker a call on Monday. I really think he's on to something. I carried the little J-frame around all weekend and found it to be very comfortable and undetectable. Hardly wait to put a few rounds through it. Seems to have a nice short predictable trigger.
