A phrase on the news....

I'm sitting here watching the news this morning regarding this whole Israel/Hezzbolah/etc conflict when one of the people being interviewed makes the point that "...this battle between Israel and Lebanon/terrorists is actually a war by proxy between the US and Iran."

It struck me as particularly apt, but also called memories of the Cold War. I just wanted to put this out as it really interested me (and since I haven't seen anything on this situation on the front page of L&P yet. is there an unwritten agreement not to talk about this? Just curious and Cry pardon if this is taboo)

Well, I think to call Israel a "proxy" army is a bit of an understatement as to their abilities and the fact that they are nobody's puppet.

Still, I can see where the political metaphor applies.

I would call it part of the Third World War - muslim extremists against the rest of the world . Hezbollah is funded by Syria and Iran. Syria has always considered Lebanon as part of Syria. The Lebanese civil war caused many Christians to leave the country, that was step one. Hezbollah controls parts of Lebanon where Lebanese troops can't even go into. They are preventing Lebanon from existing as a democratic country and they use Lebanon as a launching area against Israel.

Hezzbollah leader said he wanted war in a statement this morning...

hope his funeral insurance is paid up.

With Hezbollah and Hamas you can lead a horse to water but you can not make them drink. The Lebanonese should remember that if you have bad house guests you need to give em the boot. If the Lebonanese were smart they would let the Israelis give em the boot from Lebanon. Maybe its time for the fight to start. Old school style if we got caught fighting it was off to the ring and the gloves and boxing till you didnt want anymore..lol. Maybe we just need to keep vetoing a cease fire proposal in the UN till Hamas and Hezbollah figures out that the Pit Bull with his teeth wrapped around thier legs trying to amputate them is going to be there a long time.
