A New Pocket Holster Design

Hi Folks,

I have invented a new type of pocket holster for mouse
guns. ( very small pistols )

The pistol is held in place with a rubber coated brass wire.
There is a rubber stud in the leather part of the holster to
hold the gun steady, as the gun itself rest on the leather
holster.

The soft coated wire can be shaped to the pocket. It stays
in place when pistol is drawn. Now, the pistol is in the right
place and ready.

I designed this holster. I believe I am the first person to think
of this design.

This design is licenced under the Create Commons Attribution Non-Commercial license version 3.0. See this page for details: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/ - that means you can make your own for personal use, if you post pics link back to this thread to attribute it to me, if you want to make them commercially contact me for a small per-unit fee and we may work out a deal.

Excuse me for asking but, what does it accomplish that the prior designs do not?
I do mean...why?
I don't know maybe if it can be seen in the pocket, it will make sense...

All the best

It appears to do two things: it holds the holster in the pocket when the gun is drawn, and it holds the gun in one fixed position within the pocket so it's in the same place every time you grab for it.

Damned cool thing, that.

The only previous answer I'm aware of is the old trick of sewing or otherwise attaching a ring to the bottom of every front-gunside pocket you own, and putting a clip on the end of the holster so you can attach it. Pull the gun out, pocket turns inside out and then the holster detaches from the gun when you run out of pocket material.

If it works, Tabdog's solution is better. It's faster because the gun will detach from the holster sooner, possibly enough so that you can fire while still in the pocket. And this rig keeps the gun from flopping over in the pocket or otherwise shifting.

Damn. OK, that's sweet if it works.

Suggestion: slap a Creative Commons license on it, maybe something like:

http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/

That's how I released another new holster design concept. Others can make one for themselves; if they publish picks they have to link back to your source work (such as this thread) which in turn would have the license, and if somebody wants to pick it up commercially they have to drop you a line and ask for terms.

There's other licenses available at that site, all of which have been reviewed by lawyers. But that's most people's favorite.

It looks like a clever idea to me. How about thinking about one along these lines:

It is really hard to think of something new and this is merely something that no one has used for ages, though there must be a good reason. Maybe clothes have changed too much. But back in the day some men carried pistols in their hip pockets. Some still do but for some handguns a holster is of great assistance. I seem to recall seeing in some old book a hip pocket holster that actually was held in place by the waistbelt. Otherwise the holster was the usual flat leather design with a sewn on pocket for the pistol, though revolvers are all I have ever seen them made for. I believe I have also seen some old fashioned pocket holsters with a sort of spring clip to make them stay in the pocket when you pulled the gun.

Since practically all pocket holsters have a large panel that mostly fills the pocket, one advantage of this new design is a cooler carrying method. For me, at least, perspiration tends to collect behind and soak into just about any holster that isn't carried on the outside of a winter coat.

And she said

Is that a metal rod in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me?

Looks like it might be difficult to take that out of your pocket, when you really wanted to take it out. Around here, you can't carry concealed in banks, restaurants that serve alcohol, federal bldgs like post offices, etc. So may end up taking holster out of pocket once or twice a day or so in the middle of the day.

Hey Tabdog - one word. Brilliant!

That solves one of the main problems with the NAA mini revolvers. They bounce around w/o being in a holster. Even in a deep concealment holster, they still bounce around to the point that they will snag on the pocket's insides. This is why I sometimes have the P32 in a DeSantis pocket holster or just have the P32 with the belt clip.

One question. Does the end of the hanger/wire hold the revolver in place via the barrel?

I don't carry anything that small so I can't say if anything like that is available right now, but I will say that I've never seen anything like it. If it works as advertised I think it's a great idea, and it looks great! Thanks for the post! I just might have to get a mouse gun now...

It will not make your leg sweat.

You can safely put other stuff in that pocket.

Just put a pack of smokes or a cell phone in the
pocket and there is no imprint of a pistol.

The gun is stable.

The gun is in the right place all the time.

The gun is easy to remove.

Name another holster with these benefits,,,

I am waiting,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Hay Kiawah,

It really does not stick out any more than a bare pistol in your
pocket. Plus it is not where one would expect to see a pistol.

You can put a pack of smokes or a bandanna, cell phone phone
or anything you like in your pocket with it. That will take away
any imprint.

That is part of the benefit. You do not have to delicate a whole
pocket to just carrying a pistol.

Every thing sits in your pocket below the pistol...... The pistol is
always in easy reach, and you can still get to the other stuff in
your pocket.

That is pretty darn cool if you ask me.

But, you are right. It is a little harder to take the holster out of
the pocket.

But, on the other hand, that keeps the holster from coming out
when you have to pull the pistol out. The pistol itself comes out
easily.

I like the design. May I offer a point of constructive criticism/idear fer improvement?

My slacks have pretty deep pockets, but my jeans less so. If the rod attached to the holster could be made adjustable (up and down and maybe even for cant) I could have it oriented to my body the same every time regardless of the depth of my pocket. This might make it more women friendly too as my wife's jeans pockets are very shallow as I assume that's a commonality in woman's clothing design.

I'd like to see how the rod is attached to the leather. If there's a sewn in "pipe", perhaps there could be more than one angle and stops along the way.

Again, great idea. I hope you make sum coin off it.

Tabdog,

I got it now...:) Sorry for asking. I will never choose to put anything else in pocket with a gun, maybe that is why I couldn't get it the first time.
Interesting idea though. I imagine some people can be comfortable with that.
Good luck...

I am going to try to modify a pocket holster with something like this. The one I have right now for my TCP has too much retention.
