Chris Matthews had a guest on last night who had an interesting, possible, and I hope not true take on the Ashcroft nomination. His point was that, by appointing Ashcroft, Bush has paid his homage to the "extreme" right and can thus take more centrist positions on major issues in the future. As I said, I hope this isn't true, because there's going to be continued pressure on Bush to sign the "gun show loophole" bill, the safety lock bill and all the rest.
As most of you know, I tried to get a gazillion signatures on a petition to Bush warning him not to mess with gun owners. It garnered a whole 11,000 signatures. Does anyone have any ideas another petition to warn Bush and the RNC? Any ideas on how to get a better response?
I realize we're fighting the battle on several fronts, but I think it's important that we put some _real_ fear into the RNC if we're going to hang on for four more years.
