A New Grip on Old Friends...

Hello. I was recently able to acquire some long discontinued Fitz "Gunfighter" grips. I put a set on my S&W Model 24 and liked them so much, I bought two more sets.

I find these grips to be the most comfortable I've ever used on N-frames. I intend to keep this Model 58, but if it goes, the grips stay.

Very similar in appearance to the ones on the M58, these are going to remain with this old Model 28.

These grips sort of resemble some of the old Herrett grips, but the contours are different. They were all exceptionally tight and required a bit of fitting, but I'd rather have to do a bit of work fitting than to have them loose.

"Feel" is subjective, but these ARE the grips I've been looking for for years. To me they keep the S&W "look" and they are without question the most comfortable N-frame grips I've tried.

The set on my 6 1/2" Model 24 are blondish in color and set off the gun in my admittedly prejudiced view. Didn't get to photograph them today, but plan to in the future.

Best.

*banging head against desk*

Why are you people tormenting me with all these gorgeous Model 58's? :o

That's very funny. Two weeks ago, Paul contacted me that he had some grips left over. I picked up a set for my M-28. These ARE the perfect grip. This pistol has never pointed so well in my hands before and I've tried more then a few styles before getting here.

On the other hand, my been around the block M28 isn't nearly as pretty as the ones in your photos! :)

Yes, Mr. Camp.....

The old Fitz gunfighter grips are amoung the best of the revolver grips. I think Herrett's Shooting Stars are about equal, but it is a subjective call. Not that there is a great deal of difference. I think I prefer no finger grooves. They just never coincide with my fingers.

And that is a delightful example of revolver and grips there.... sigh....

Fitz Pistol Grips got their name from a good FIT!

I might mention when comparing Fitz with later brands that Fitz was established in 1919, patented target grips with thumb rest and palm swell plates in 1924 and closed in 1979 when my wood factory burnt and oil-plastics prices tripled.

I love my Smith 58's

Since some pretty Smiths are being shown I will show off my two pair one mint that I obtained as the weapons instructor for my department. I overcome the limited factory ammo made for it by casting my own Ca-Saeco 220 Gr Keith SWC bullets from mostly tire weights and they are a fine shooting weapon that can be carried anywhere in North America for meat and Self Defense.
