Hello, I am Dragan Antoninovich Sadarov. I recently became a registered citizen of the United States and I have a question conserning some firearms.

In the old country I have 2 rifles which I had used when I served in the Service. They are:

1.) Avtomat-Kalashnikov model 108. (Semi auto-matic)
2.) Avtomat Nikonova 94 (Semi auto-matic)

I understand there are some firearm restrictions in my state of Iowa. However, I would like to know how i get my rifles shipped with no problem and as legally as posibel?

Go to your nearest firearms dealer in Iowa and ask there. They will probably have to call the BATFE to get it all done as smooth as possible.

Congratulations on your shiney new citizenship.

While your post indicates the rifles are semi-automatic, the fact of your having used them in service makes me think they are more likely selective-fire -- that the switch on the side permits fully automatic fire.

If that is the case, I think importing them would be very problemmatic. Even if your rifles are semi-automatic only, I would think importing them would land somewhere between a headache and a futile exercise.

I am sure that an ordinary AK design would be a step back technologically, but it may be the closest thing to a solution within current law.

All of the above is a guess, but should outline for the issues you will want answers for from the dealer and BATF. I would suggest a dealer with some experience in fully automatic sales.
 
Welcome to the states.

Consult the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms for laws and procedures pertaining to the importation of firearms.

It may be cheaper to just buy new ones...
 
I know of only 2 ways to import firearms:

1. ATF import license; this is temporary - you have to take the gun back out of the country eventually

2. State Department import license - this is expensive!

In short, it's next to impossible to do it on your own - you will have to get a company with an import license to do it for you as NavyLT said - and bear in mind there are some kinds of firearms that cannot be imported at all.
