A long shot, but have you ever bought one?

I am interested in the Weaver no-tap scoperail for revolvers. I've only found one for the Ruger SBH or SRH. I have a regular Redhawk. Have you ever had such a rail for a Redhawk or do youknow if the model for other Rugers would fit mine.

Neither stockists nor parent company are responding to my question on this.

Soon reaching the point when I look at getting a custom mount made!

I used to have one - it may still even be laying around in a box somewhere. It was OK, but not nearly as secure as the scope mounts on the newer "hunter" models.

Pond, I have a weaver that I had purchased from midway last fall and tried it on a Ruger Blackhawk 44 mag. It seemed to be alright. I had never had a scoped revolver and tried it and decided after 40 rounds or so that I would stay with the iron sites, so I took it off. It was just something that I wanted to try. I used a little gun tight on the screws. I just put the scope and rings for sale on here. If you're interested in this mount, I'm sure we could work out something. If you're looking for the hole setup, let me know. You can see the scope and rings on the Buy,sell and trade gear forum.

In principle I'd be interested, sure, but unfortunately the Blackhawk model does not go on the Redhawk and I have the latter. Also, I get the impression that sending scopes outside the States may be a no-no for you, although I am not sure and I don't known if this only applies to companies or private individuals as well.

Certainly the former have always refused to send overseas!

why not just drill and tap it?

Although its a tough gun, I don't want to weaken it and I'd started a thread on that very topic a couple of years back and a common theme in the responses was "leave alone, don't trash you gun just for rail system."

In truth, I really would rather not drill and tap the gun if I can find a decent no-tap alternative.

The Weaver system seems like it could be and I'm waiting for a price offer from one UK shop on ordering one and shipping it to me.

I'm guessing Redhawks are not that easy to come by where you are. Here in the states, if I really wanted a scoped Redhawk it would be a pretty easy matter to sell the regular Redhawk and replace it with a good used Redhawk Hunter model with the scope cutouts. The price difference would be relatively small.

The Weaver clamp on base I bought for a sbh did ok for light 44spc loads, but not for mag loads.

Was a waist of money...

I can get them. They're just immensely expensive. I also really like my 4" model. It's perfect for my needs and wouldn't want to get rid of it.

However, I'd like the option of a scope on it even if not all the time.

What happened to it with mag loads?

What happened to it with mag loads?

I can only relate what happened to me with the SBH I had it on. I had a red dot sight on it and even from a bench I could never get groups better than 6" at 50 yds. With other scoped pistols I can get very good groups. I never did figure out if it was due to a bad red dot sight, weak mounts that couldn't handle magnum loads, or perhaps just my shooting style that didn't work wll with single-action grips (single action style revolvers aren't always easy to switch to if you are a DA style user). I sold the pistol and tossed the sight in a box for "future use".

I use the 301 weaver on my 41 mag blackhawk--only because nobody makes an aftermarket screw-on, or more precisely Ruger doesn't provide a way to do that.

My experience is that it will not stay in place under sustained use of magnum loads. The front c-clamp portion which fits over the barrel will simply open up gradually while at the same time dig away on the bluing on the barrel. I tried just about every work-around and nothing worked.

I finally bit the bullet and went for a drill and tap. A single screw just aft of the bottom rail groove in the photo will do the trick--it goes into the thickest part of the frame top strap and I'm sure won't weaken it. I also have a small hex screw so I can remove the mount and return the gun to irons and cover the tap hole with the screw.

You should be able to find a "non-invasive" mount for a Redhawk.

Since its pressure fit the .44mags shake it loose.

seriously drilling and tapping it wont weaken it to the point where you will notice or have issues people have been d&t revolvers since forever.
