A Locked Up Trooper

Gents, need a little assistance with an issue I have not encountered before. I have a Colt Trooper MK III, original owner, unfired. Tonight I attempted to open the cylinder and she was locked tight. The cylinder release latch appeared to have restricted movement, thus preventing the cylinder from releasing. Last time I had this gun out was a couple months back at which time a light coat of ren wax was applied. Any thoughts or possible remedies as to what might be going on?

I suspect some wax got into the sideplate slot where the latch rides and is blocking it. I suggest that you first place a piece of soft wood against the front of the thumbpiece and tap it lightly. If that doesn't work, take off the grips and soak the gun in a solvent.

As a last resort remove the grips and sideplate and soak the latter in a solvent/cleaner.
