A little help here :)

Ok.. am fixin' to buy ( layway) a new CCW pistol. I've shot the .40, .357SIG, and .45 and like them all but I can't get but one. :( It will be a compact , polymer probably. Which would y'all go for? Lemme see.... I'll get about 15 answers and 5 recommendations for each caliber. I know this is a dumb question so humor me anyway... thanks. I already have a Taurus .38 spl ultralite revolver, a Keltec P-32 and a Keltec P-11 but want a bigger bore for primary carry.

Glock 27 & Glock 30.....................

are both excellent carry guns! Both are compact, polymer, and as reliable as can be. Some complain that the G30 is too fat as a carry gun but that was not my experience. Of course a good holster and belt sure helps with any carry situation. Good shooting:)

Just a few

Glock-27 .40S&W
Glock-23 .40S&W
Glock-33 .357Sig
Glock-32 .357Sig
Glock-30 .45acp
Glock-36 .45acp
(Glock-29, .10mm)
H&K USP Compact .357Sig, .40S&W, .45acp
Wather P99 or S&W-99, .40S&W
S&W Sigma, .40S&W
Springfield XD, .357Sig,.40S&W
Kimber Polymer, .40S&W, .45acp
SigPro, .357Sig, .40S&W
Ruger Polymer, .40S&W, .45acp
Steyer, .40S&W
Kahr, .40S&W
Taurus polymer, .40S&W, .45acp
I am sure that I have forgot a few, 'sorry'

My personal picks are Glock-23, Glock-27 or Glock-29, H&K USP- .45acp!

Here's how you narrow this down:

(1) How compact, exactly?

(2) Do you want it to have a manual safety?

(3) What kind of operation (DA/SA, SA, DAO, etc.)?

(4) Do you want to be able to modify/toy with it?

If you answer those questions, the list gets nice and short.

though I may be out voted for an extra $150 you can get the first two calibers in the same gun.

Brand I choose HK

My favorite....

..and most accurate (for me, anyway) is a Glock 27. I fired it right from the box and it's never malfunctioned yet. I've had it since 1998. I'd venture to say that the G27 is what most of the Jefferson County PD uses as BUG's. As far as that "recoil" issue goes...my little wifey loves "our" Glock .40 caliber. At the range, it's difficult to get it away from her. Sigh....Maybe I should just buy her one for her own so she will leave mine alone!:p Why have I not thought of that before?????

If you like them all and they are good quality firearms you're not going to make a mistake. There's not a bad round in the bunch. I'd go .45 just because that's what I'm comfortable with (slow round, big hole, even ball ammo works as a stopper). But if I had a great .40 I'm sure swear by it. Or a .357 sig. What a dilemma!!!

Another vote for .45
I looked at 357SIG myself. Since I would be doing target shooting (with factory loads) as well, the .45 was the cheapest ammo. It can also be bought anywhere. I've not seen .357SIG at Wal-Mart.

a little help here...

It looks like the .45 is the overwhelming choice here. I was sort of leaning the .45 also although the .357 SIG is interesting. I forgot to say that I also own a S&W 422 and an old Dan Wesson .357 revolver with a 4" barrel. This one goes hunting and fishing with me but is too much for CCW. I have taken a liking to the looks of the duo-tone guns lately. The new gun won't be used for target practice, just shot enough to stay comfortable with it cuz it'll be my primary carry gun. To the Glock lovers out there... I just don't care for them. I dont' like the safety or the looks , just my opinion. I know they are great pistols, just not for me. I'm always glad to listen to opinions and advice.. thanks.

You should check out the HK USP .40 Compact LEM. It is a sweet little gun and the LEM trigger is amazing. If you go to www.hkpro.com and do a search of the boards you will find a wealth of positive feedback on the trigger system.

EDIT: Be careful of buying HKs because they are very addictive
