A large selection of gun manuals,,,

Good grief Aaron. You didn't know about Steve's Pages after all the time you've been on here? Can I also direct you to rimfirecentral or theberettaforum?

C'mon guys,,,

C'mon guys,,,
I posted a resource,,,
And I'm getting teased for it?

No, after all these years I had never seen these pages before,,,
And after many inquiries about some owner manuals,,,
No one here has shared this website with me either.

I've also known about it for awhile. When I re-visited recently, I noticed that Smith and Wesson had directed he remove all their manuals. I guess they are worried about their intellectual property rights but nobody else seems to be concerned and it's a non-commercial use. Go figure.

I had wondered about that how that site fares in relation to copyright laws, and I'm not surprised that S&W has objected to its distribution of their manuals.

The fact that it's a non-commercial use doesn't mean it's OK. It's an infringement of copyright to make something available in its entirety without the owner's permission; it doesn't matter if it's being given away, it's still illegal.

I wasn't suggesting Smith and Wesson were outside of their rights to demand they be removed, just surprised. They could grant permission and retain their copyright. One would think they would actually want for their manuals to be readily accessible but it's their decision.

Their manuals are available on their website, and probably bring in a certain amount of traffic, some of which may be people who'll look at products while they're there -- that would likely have some value to S&W. :)

I didn't know about it either. I got to read about an old Colt pistol that I inherited. Seems like I learn something new here every day:D
