A high volume shooter again!

About 3 years ago I got into Single action revolver shooting and then went further backwards and got into Black Powder just to try and slow down ammo consumption.
It's worked great at least up till last week...
That's when I picked up my sweet little Model 36 Chief's Special.
My shooting bag has 3 1/2 boxes of emptys from just one sessiom with the little Chief!
I don't see that the slow-down is gonna work anymore.
I just can't put the little Model 36 down I keep reloading the cylinder every time I empry it! So much for my good intentions.
Well getting to really know a self-defense revolver isn't a bad thing because you want operation to be a reflex action!
Maybe when the "new" wears off I'll slow down the ammo burning. I had too much fun playing Cowboy and sending billowing clouds of white smoke up! I know that I will never put the single action revolvers away for good.
I just need to alot more time at the Club Range for everything eh?

I'm with you...love these j-frames! I bought a new S&W 438 last month and it has at least 400 rounds through it. I even had it Mag-na-ported.

I went down a similar road but could never get back to high volume shooting. I got tired of pretending I was gaining proficiency and expertise while my bank account shrank. Im not saying your doing that at all, just that I was. I thought with enough practice whatever the cost, Id be able to shoot great in a gunfight but ive since accepted that I wont. With any gun it just takes me a few shots and a little warm up before Im shooting well but in reality a gunfight will be over before I ever achieve that.

I'm not sure, hadn't thought of it as training...it's just FUN. Besides, a couple of hundred .38s only cost me $30 to reload. (Fees, taxes, and shipping included!) Time to load? About an hour a week...

I don't know about you guys, but I'm having one heck of a lot fun shooting this summer and there's a couple of reasons...

I started reloading two years ago and easily paid off the equipment in the first year!

The second is, I stopped wasting my time with paper targets and bought steel. You can blast away at paper all day and never get better. Steel is the only way to go. No changing targets, instant feedback.

Heck, I was shooting my Airweight from 35 yards and hitting the 24 inch and 8 inch steel plates! I have some 5 inch steel coming next week, that's going to be challenging.

Yessir, shooting is for fun. Lots of Mod 36 wouldn't be my cup of tea, but hats off to everyone who happily shoots what he likes and finds an economical way to do it!

Well, I'd always wanted a "J" Frame and HAD to get this little Nickled GOODIE!
I love it!
I don't reload but .38's aren't all that cost prohibitive and you can find reasonable reloads at gun shows.
I try to train as I punch paper but I agree steel os far better as a training aid.
I am just now learning Double Action shooting after a lifetime of Single Actions. D/A is an art to itself and it's gonna take a lot of ammo to get it down right!
It's OK, I still love the shiney little revolver!
