Um,,ahem,,ahh, umm, well yeah sometimes I do glance at them. Mostly Dilbert though. ;)

Seems as though Rex Morgan has become a bit tactical though. Check out the July 7th strip. I wonder what direction this is headed though.

Heather, Rex's nanny, is being stalked by a mysterious and menacing stranger, who has followed her from England. When advised by her mother in a telephone call that her address had been compromised, Heather expressed that she was finished running away, and armed herself with a Walther-style .380.

How she came by the gun has not been made clear, since she came from a country whose citizens are encouraged to submit to victimization peacefully.

Today, the stranger has made entry into the house where Heather is helping the burglar alarm installer. A strange noise has been heard. Stay tuned.

Prediction: Heather will shoot at noise instead of gaining positive target ID. The intruder will turn out to be her mother, coming to make sure Heather's okay.

Dollars to donuts. Anyone?

Recent storylines in this strip indicate some firearm knowledge on the part of the creative team.

Graham Nolan, the new artist, really knows how to draw women, too...

Compare and contrast this strip with Jump Start and Stone Soup, both of which feature uniformed police that are unarmed, or are 'just drawn that way.'

No way, Coinneach. The mother is in England and the intruder has been depicted as a fiendish looking male, hiding in the shadows in the basement. The fecal matter and the turbine should interface on Sunday, always a big day for Rex and Mary Worth. Be there.

Really? Too cool. I generally don't read the dramatic "comics," so I was going on instinct with my prediction.

Cynical? Me? Noooooo...

This is one of those I hope it turns out the way it should type of stories. Heather (the girl being stalked) is showing some pretty good form (pun intended) also. Notice the finger outside the trigger guard.
It would be a breath of fresh air to see a story in the paper about a woman not taking any crap and refusing to be a victum for a change, without any judgemental bylines about using a gun.

:) I don't care what you call them, Slowpoke, they are "soap operas" (even if they are comics)... and I found a whole room full of men talking about them ... not only that, they're predicting the outcome! :D This is something I'll definately have to spread around. ;)

I won't subscribe to a paper that doesn't have Smoky Stover, Ally Oop and the Katzenjammer Kids.

Sam....follow me, I be the duty ol fat.

Say what you will about Alley Oop, it was more believable than the current administration (rimshot), but I wanta tell ya . . .

Oh, and Blueeydog, any excuse to put off going to work another ten or fifteen seconds is a good one. These continuity strips are important windows into our culture, of which we renaissance gentlemen of the twenty-first century are trying to learn more.

Damn, & my paper doesn't carry Rex Morgan anymore. Ah, but the wonders of cyberspace come through again!

RAE--
Thanks for the tip-off about this strip.

Ledbetter--Yeah, I KNOW it's a comic strip and not a photograph. but I note the little DA pistol has no Walther-type slide mounted safety/decocker. Could it be the late, unlamented Detonics Auto Nine, hardest operating blow back pistol on record?

ALSO--Do any comix afficionados hereabouts have any idea about the Stan Lynde strips==where I can find a compendium of preferebly both, RICK O'SHAY and LAREDO?

For those not familiar, title character Rick is marshal of Coniption. Girl friend is Gaye Abandon, best friend is Hipshot Percussion, juvenile sidekick is Quayatt Burpp. Mr. Lynde (Lynd?) is/was much the firearms enthusiast--ALL the guns were exactly correct, especially after late 60s/early 70s, when cartoonist announced that the strip would be set exactly 100 years before present date. I still recall in 1973, when Hipshot retired his brace of 1851 Colt Navy revolvers and showed his new pair of Single Action Armies. He said, "Blessed are The Peacemakers.

A lot of good theology mixed in with western history and humor. And a bit of pragmatism. When Hipshot is ambushed and at death's door, Rick drops his badge on the mayor's desk and leaves town, on a hunting trip . . . .

If anyone can tell me where to find archives of these strips, I'd be very grateful. And, I believe anyone who reads/posts on TFL would really enjoy the strips as well.

Thanks in advance--

Rocky, could you clue me in on where the Lynde strip is found? I remember that strip, and would dearly love to see it again. Thanks.
