A Good Deal?

My dad is considering buying a revolver and I wanted to know if you guys thought it was a good deal. It is an ex-border patrol S&W Model 29-2 .44 Magnum with a 4" barrel. The blueing is perfect and its wearing a set of Pachmayr grips. It comes with 5 HKS speedloaders, 24 rounds of .44Mag SJHP of some sort. A belt pouch for 4 of the speedloaders and a leather gun case all for $429.99. Waddaya think?

Sounds it...

Taking a quick look at gunbroker.com, it sounds like it is at least a competative price. If it was me, I'd wave 4 C-notes in the guys face first to see if he took it. You can't let the extra stuff distract you from the price of the pistol. Tell him you'll give him $375 for the Smith, and tell him he can keep the extra stuff...

Then again, I've been spoiled by finding really good deals when I look for used guns, and I'm more of a .357 kind of guy.

Not a bad price for a decent N-frame. The condition of the action means a lot more than the cosmetics. I personally don't care about any of the extras when considering the price. I would point out that it doesn't have the original stocks. If it is an early M29-2 then the original stocks (diamond targets) have a bit of value themselves which I would use as a haggling point.

Be carefull, heavy use of 44 mag ammo in the S&W will put them out of time. It being a police gun it had to be shot alot so check it out real good.

OK, he bought it Monday. The action and bore are both perfect. The guy he got it from usually has pretty competative prices but won't haggle much. The extras really weren't a big deal to him, I just mentioned them for the sake of providing all the information. He also got a box of Federal 240grn .44Spl lead Hollow Points to try in it (and possibly use for inside the house in case of a home invasion).

$430 for the entire package would be pretty good where I'm at.
I see Model 29s and 629s in the $450-500 range frequently. Heck if he sold the speedloaders on ebay for $5 each, and the pouch for $10, he just lowered the price of the gun to $395. It sounds like he got a deal.
